Yes, you can use your Amtrak points to book travel for someone else by making the reservation in their name. Booking a seat for someone else is the same as booking for yourself, but you’ll need to be prepared with the personal info, itinerary, and preferences of the person you want to buy a ticket for.
How to Redeem Amtrak Points for Someone Else
- Log in to your Amtrak Guest Rewards account.
- Enter the travel details, including the destination and the departure and return dates. Select the "Use Points" option, and click “Find Trains.”
- Choose your preferred trip and click “Add to Cart.”
- Enter the traveler’s details and click “Continue.”
- Review your booking, then confirm by clicking “Purchase.” You’ll receive a confirmation email from Amtrak.
After you’ve completed the reservation, make sure the traveler has everything they need for the trip. They'll likely need a valid ID for check-in and ticket confirmation. It’s also helpful to send them the confirmation email and booking details so they can easily pull up their ticket and trip info when it’s time to travel.
