Yes, you can get your Hilton Honors points back if you cancel a reservation made with points. Most properties allow you to cancel an award night booking 48 hours before your check-in time without having to pay cancellation penalties. After you've successfully canceled your free night, points will immediately be credited back to your account.
Keep in mind that if you cancel too late or don't show up for a Reward Stay reservation, you will be charged a cancellation fee. You might get your points back, but you could have to pay for a night out of pocket.
