Their bill pay is terrible. Especially the ebill. Stopped all of the ebill payments because I would get a monthly email to log into my account to get a security code for the payee. Might as well just go into the bill pay and pay it myself monthly since I was going to the site anyway. Also you are dealing with a third party for the bill pay. Frustrating to get answers. Thinking of finding a new bank. Tried of it for the last couple of years.
If you are a woman you do not want to do business with this establishment. Because of a construction loan, I have a joint account with a male. I do not have full access to the account because "his name is listed first." 1/2 of the money is mine, earned by me I was advised to ask him to give permission for me to have full access to the account. As soon as the house is completed we will close this account and go elsewhere with our business. I am independently wealthy and have not had to ask anyone about anything financial since I was a child. This is so insulting. These people think like those who believe women are chattel.
LMCU's Max Checking is an incredible deal. I just keep $15,000, satisfy basic requirements, and receive about $37 each month. ATM fee reimbursement is also a good feature. Lifting charge from overseas accounts is only $5 as big banks charge $10. The credit union is also popular for competitive mortgage loan and low interest rate credit cards, while I do not use these services.
This Credit Union is worse than a bank. I am a former banker, and they have several things they do poorly. First of all they have a terrible Online banking website and app, that is difficult to understand, and easy to overdraw your account with. I still do not understand it fully, and I have a BA in accounting, an MBA in business administration and 15 years experience in banking. It seems they allow pending transactions to overdraw your account, and then when they receive the "receipt" for the transaction, they send it through again as "posted" and allow that to overdraw the account as well. I paid more than $100 dollars in NSF fees monthly while I banked there, and now that I have switched, I have paid none in six months at the bank I now use. The staff is nice, and want to help, but the administration and management really do not know what they are doing in terms of banking. I also had a credit card, and due to a loss of my job could not pay it. Every other Bank and credit card company worked with me, reducing my interest rate to 0%, allowing me to not pay anything at all for several months until I found work etc....everyone but LMCU. They called family members, including my ex-wife whom I had a PPO order against, looking for money, and after just 6 months, filed to take me to court. Even banks that are known for their fees, and poor customer service treated me better than this Credit Union. I wanted a credit union barbecue I heard they were local, part of my community and cared about me as a person, as opposed to a bank that is just out for my money. Perhaps that is true of some other credit unions, but not this one. Despite their not-for-profit tax status, profit is all they care about, and even more so than the typical nasty banks so many of us dislike. Stay far away from them if you ever fall on hard times, because they could care less about you.
I have a checking account at LMCU and can not say enough good things about this credit union. Their website is easy to navigate and you can pay your bills online. I earn three percent interest on my checking account as long as I meet the monthly requirements. ATM fees are fully refunded and they also have ATMs just about everywhere now that they have partnered with Allpoint ATMs so you don't even have to use a non-LMCU ATM if you do not want to. I can also deposit my checks through their phone app. I do not live near a physical LMCU bank and I still love this bank!
When I moved to a new location I needed a local bank to do business with. I also have a few online bank accounts but sometimes it's nice to be able to do business with an actual local branch. For that, I went with Lake Michigan Credit Union. They are very friendly when you come in and they have no monthly fees or anything like that. ATM's are widely available and customer service is great. I highly recommend them.
I love Lake Michigan Credit Union! How many banks offer 3% interest on your checking account!! I have also fallen in love with mobile banking which I know other places have but this is the only place I have used it. It is so easy I almost never go to the bank anymore. I even taught my technology challenged mom how to do it and she loves it too. Also love that ATM surcharges are refunded. There are some small requirements to fulfill in order to receive your interest payment but they are very easy to complete. Not a single complaint about this checking account :)
I have opened an account with LMCU more than once. Each time they gave me no problems and have always helped resolve issues. At one point, I used their overdraft transfer system when I overdrew my account. My fault, but some small language had changed on the account agreement since I had started, so they reversed all of those charges. Hundreds of dollars worth. Of course, that's a one-time thing, but most institutions would have left you hanging for that. The Online Banking and account access systems via Android app is excellent. The ability to view transaction details is better than most other banks. The application process I only gave 4 stars to because one time I had an issue with addresses. That was a new employee and she was a bit tight on the regulations. Other than that, they are a 5 star institution. I don't hand out 5 star ratings because I have a warm fuzzy feeling. They really are good.
After dealing with horrible big banks for years, a friend recommended to me a credit union. I switched over to Lake Michigan Credit Union and was blown away. Great interest rates, no fees at all, no monthly fee or paper statement fee. Not even a minimum balance requirement. This is how banking should be done. They have fantastic customer service and I have not had any problems with them what so ever. I highly recommend them.
My first checking account was with a company that didn't use branch offices, so once I needed an actual branch office for checking, I decided to check out Lake Michigan Credit Union. They have one of the highest interest rates I've seen offered from a bank, amazing customer service. I would walk in and they would recognize me and say hello and call me by name. I wasn't just another account to them, they were very friendly. Can't really beat them.
In the event that in a given week, for this product, there were multiple applicable rates in our database based on different criteria, the above graph reflects the lowest interest rate recorded. Before submitting an application, always verify with the issuing institution (i.e. bank, credit union, other lender) the rates, fees, and all terms and conditions accompanying the application.
