More recently, I had to call US Bank and report that I was receiving calls from people that were obvious scammers. I asked them to help me change key security questions to ensure that they could not access my account. I changed my password and set up two-factor authentication to make sure scammers could not access my account. I thought everything was fine. I paid some bills out of my account. The payments were denied despite the fact that I had ample money in my account. I called the bank, and they told me to call their bill payment processing company. The bill payment automated voice system kept hanging up on me after I entered my social security number. I called US Bank again. They gave me a different number for the bill payment service company. I tried calling them again, and again their automated system kept hanging up on me.
I went to the bank to find out what was going on, and the teller finally informed me that US Bank had blocked my account from having funds removed without my knowledge. They did this and did not bother to tell me not to try to pay bills with my account. They wanted me to close my account and open a new one. I withdrew my funds and went to a new bank. Now I have the hassle of changing all of my banking information. I had to call the companies and people to whom I paid money and explain. It was assumed I had insufficient funds to pay my bills, and I had been charged fees for that. US Bank is not a good bank. It's been a huge headache. I recommend avoiding them.
Apologies for it being long, but this is information you should know, and I'm not the kind of person to usually complain.
Anyway, I joined US Bank because they are so remote, and I was moving across states in a month. When I set up my account in Idaho, the man who assisted me was very kind. It went very well, but keep in mind he never asked for proof of residence. Just information about my current address and the location/date of when I was moving.
Fast forward—I moved across states and immediately (on the 12th of August) went into the bank to change it to my temporary address (my boyfriend and I were moving to a permanent address a few weeks after my arrival), once again when they never told me I needed proof of residence. Additionally, I went into the bank two times after the 12th. Going ahead a week or two from my last visit, I was very sick and went to order some food. However, to my surprise, none of my transactions were going through. Confused, I went on my mobile app to find all three of my accounts were nowhere to be found. Immediately, I called the bank to see what was going on. Over the phone, the lady just told me, "Your account was closed today." Shocked, I kept asking questions and got no answers to what was happening. The lady over the phone was clueless and connected me to two other customer service calls. "You needed proof of residency. We've been trying to contact you since the first." Still confused, since NO ONE TOLD ME, I searched through all my emails, text messages, and phone calls and didn't see anything from US Bank regarding it or any notice of maybe, "Hey, by the way, we're closing your account?" I kept asking over the phone, "Well, who closed the account? Which department?" etc. The person over the phone was just as oblivious, still giving me zero answers, so finally I dragged myself to the bank, already over it. When I got there and told the lady the situation, she even seemed shocked. Then, fed up, trying to get my money back, she tells me they already mailed out cashier's checks that day, and there is nothing they could do. Which, of course, was to our temporary address, and they couldn't even change it to my permanent one I was moving to in 3 days. So with that, I had to spend almost 2 weeks with zero money, and I still had no notice of my account being closed, any information about what happened, or who closed my account. All of them were just completely oblivious; like, shouldn't you know this kind of information, or at least inform someone about such an action? On top of all that, they still wanted me to stay there. So safe to say, don't bank there!
Additionally, but semi not relevant, the same day I went to the ER from the virus I had and couldn't, myself, buy the medications I needed to recover. (Thankfully, I have great loved ones in the area to help out.) However, you never know what will happen, so stick with a bank you trust.
I had no access to pay bills, review my account, or access my rightful funds. US Bank treated me unjustly as I had done nothing wrong. The only wrongful act committed was US Bank seizing my funds.
Stay far away from US Bank.
