Journey Student Rewards from Capital One is the winner over the Discover it® Student Cash Back. Journey Student Rewards from Capital One wins because it offers students simple rewards and is easier to manage than the Discover it Student Cash Back card.It’s a close call, though. While neither card charges an annual fee, making them easier for students to afford, the Discover it Student Cash Back card offers a higher maximum rewards rate than Capital One Journey, as well as the possibility of low-interest introductory deals. Discover it Student Cash Back also automatically matches all the cash back rewards new cardholders earn the first year, as an anniversary bonus. But maximizing the value of Discover it Student Cash Back necessitates activating new bonus rewards categories every quarter, which is an easily forgettable task for busy college students. Bonus rewards are also capped, and there’s no guarantee the bonus categories will match your biggest expenses, either.

The Discover it® Student Cash Back grace period is at least 25 days (at least 23 days for billing periods that begin in February), from the last day of the card's billing cycle to the payment due date. If you pay your balance in full every month, you won't be charged interest.
