The Lufthansa Credit Card is a good card for frequent flyers who have good or excellent credit and prefer Lufthansa to other major carriers. It’s worth the $89 annual fee if you earn the initial bonus (60,000 miles), and spending at least $6,742 to $13,485 per year can get you enough rewards as well. Just make sure to pay your bill in full every month, or else expensive interest charges will cost you big time. 

What I Like About the Lufthansa Credit Card

Solid sign-up bonus 

You'll get 60,000 miles for spending at least $3,000 within 90 days of opening a Lufthansa Credit Card account. While most points/miles are worth about a penny apiece, Lufthansa miles currently have a slightly lower redemption value of about ($0.0066) per mile. That means you’re getting about $396 in bonus rewards for spending $3,000, for an earning rate of 13% cash back.
 

Uniquely versatile airline rewards 

Most airline-affiliated credit cards give you their maximum earning rates only when you buy tickets directly from the particular airline whose branding they bear. The Lufthansa Mastercard is a bit different, though. You’ll earn 2 miles / $1 spent (~1.2% back) on tickets purchased directly from any Miles & More airline, which includes AirDolomiti, Austrian Airlines Group, Brussels Airlines, SWISS and more.

You’ll also earn 1 mile / $1 (~0.66% back) on all other purchases, but you’re probably better off using a general-purpose travel rewards card. You can get 2% back or more with such a card. 
 

Extra perks annually

The Lufthansa Credit Card gives you a free companion ticket and two vouchers to a Lufthansa Business Lounge after your first purchase and each year thereafter. As long as you fly with a family member, colleague or friend at least once a year, these perks should more than cover the cost of the Lufthansa Card’s $89 annual fee.

What I Don’t Like About the Lufthansa Credit Card

Fairly high annual fee 

To put the Lufthansa Mastercard’s $89 annual fee into context, the average credit card charges just $28.25 per year, according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report. And while the best travel rewards cards have annual fees comparable to the Lufthansa Card’s, some waive the charge for the first year.
 

Not the card for financing 

The Lufthansa Credit Card offers a 0% for 15 months introductory APR on balance transfers, which would be attractive if not for the 5% (min $5) balance-transfer fee that accompanies it.

Similarly, you can easily do better than the Lufthansa Card’s regular APR, which could be well above the averages among credit cards for people with good credit (23.26%) and excellent credit (17.11%), according to WalletHub research.
 

Good credit or better needed for approval

Bottom Line: Is a Miles & More Credit Card Worth It?

If you have a 700+ credit score, you want to save on Lufthansa airfare, and you plan to pay the bill in full every month, this card is worth getting. And if you can comfortably spend enough to earn the initial bonus, that would be ideal.
