Want more prepaid debit cards options?WalletHub makes it easy to compare prepaid debit cards across many companies.
American Express Serve is one of our favorite prepaid cards. It offers everything you need to say goodbye to your checking account or to check-cashing stores at a price point that’s hard to beat. Serve’s free online bill pay feature allows you to pay billers that don’t accept plastic, and its free mobile app enables you to fund your account simply by taking a picture of a check. There are only two fees to even worry about and both are avoidable. If you direct deposit at least $500 each month and withdraw money exclusively from MoneyPass ATMs, of which there are more than 24,000 nationwide, then Amex Serve will be completely free to use. As such, Serve makes for a great replacement checking account, check-cashing service or financial literacy teaching tool. And that’s all you really need to know. But if you want more information, make sure to check out our full American Express Serve review.
All the 1 star reviews are from people who obviously cannot read. They expect to use it like a debit card, which it clearly is not. Others complain about issues that they themselves are at fault for.

No fees no complaints, easy to top up easy to use easy to check balance and transactions by phone unlike PayPal. By by PayPal thank you bluebird.
probably some of the worst customer service I've ever encountered, I had one question, can I add my prepaid card to a digital wallet. everytime I called, they either would direct me to another number that wasn't active, or put me on hold for about and hour "looking for the right representative". when I finally got on the phone with someone who had info on the prepaid cards, all there info was wrong. I was told that I couldn't add my gift card to gpay, which is weird since the card says you can add it too gpay, ad that I can only add my card to Samsung pay. than after trying to add it to Samsung pay and it not working, I recalled just to get a representative who said that the card does not work with digital wallets, which again makes no sense considering the fact that card states that it should work with gpay, Apple pay, and Samsung pay. 3 hours of my life I'm never gonna get back with literally no results and no help.

Lost my prepaid card and called to get a new one. It only had a few dollars left on it but I figured I'd try. It took me 3 phone calls and transfers to get to the correct department and then over 1/'2 an hour to give her my information. Her language was hard to understand but we muddles through it and then at the end she races through a URL that I had to send something to and I lost it. Couldn't understand one letter she was telling me. For the few dollars I was getting the process was too much and I told her she could keep her money.

This is a disgusting disgrace of a company. These people took $40 that was refunded to me through a purchase that was canceled by KFC. KFC refunded the money but American Express never put the $40 back on to my card. They then sent me an email saying that my account was overdrafted $7.. I didn't pay much attention to this email just assuming that the $40 would go back onto my card and the $7 would be refunded to American Express. It was December 13th 2021 I was checking my account to see if my child tax credit head came through yet. I had planned to use this to finish the rest of my shopping for Christmas for I have six children. Much to my surprise when I called it said my account had been canceled so I called to speak to somebody I spoke to two different ladies who told me that they check would be returned to the government and then mailed back to me. So basically I was screwed for Christmas and if I wanted to challenge this situation I would have to write a letter in ink and mail it to them. I can truly say I have never been so devastated or disgusted in my entire existence. I will never ever use Jackson Hewitt again for taxes as long as they are with American Express.

I've been using my AX serve for over 4 years. They make it known that it is a prepaid debit card. But when it comes to a hotel hold, it's 30 days and is only considered a cc at that time. The hotel released the funds in 24 hours. But I have to call them to send email or wait 30 days. You can not get cashback. Some merchants don't even take it. I would go with a prepaid PayPal debit MasterCard. You will get your paycheck early on most prepaid debit cards.

HORRIBLE! Hacker got into my Instacart account and even with Instacart on merged call saying charge was fraud and transaction ID’s, times, dates & freaking amounts did not match and were not generated by Instacart this Serve nightmare refused to reverse authorization hold on funds. Do yourself a favor & forget this complete mess. Customer service involved an extremely “snotty” woman talking over me. Vote with your feet, get a prepaid card elsewhere-I sure as hell am!
