Review for Connect (Powered by American Family Insurance)
My car window was broken by a criminal while I was on a family vacation, and I've been dealing with Connect for over a month now trying to get it fixed. The experience has been beyond frustrating. Everything with this company moves painfully slow, and despite constant follow-ups, I still haven't received any real progress on replacing my broken window or fixing my driver-side window.
It's sad because I left State Farm to try Connect after being referred through my Costco membership, thinking it would be a good switch. Instead, it's been nothing but delays, excuses, and zero sense of urgency or concern for customers.
I've had it up to my wits' end with this company. I would not recommend Connect to anyone. After reading reviews, I reached out to my attorney to get the ball rolling on this.

We had Connect insurance for about four years. Connect raised our homeowners' insurance and car insurance every year, despite there being no claims on either policy. They increased our dwelling coverage to over 1 million dollars, double the value of the home. We had previously inquired about the process of having our roof replaced, and shortly after, our dwelling coverage increased to over 800k. The following year, they raised it to over 1 million dollars. We switched insurance companies immediately and saved over $350.00 every month.
This company seems to be for profit only.

National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) ranks CONNECT several standard deviations below average, indicating they are significantly worse than the average insurer based on the number of complaints. I am unsure how they are allowed to continue in a regulated industry. If you have an accident, you won't be able to reach them, and they won't investigate. Despite having data about over 3,000 drives (via their tracking app of me, showing zero speeding), they still claimed I was speeding (based on a phoned-in "witness," not present at the scene) and therefore "at fault" for being rear-ended.

I wondered why my premium went up by $474 for the year. They added several items to the policy without consulting the policyholder: refrigerated box insurance, identity theft insurance, and three other items we did not request. When I called, their response was that they hoped I had read the policy and if I did not want the added items, I should ask them to remove them. They also canceled my policy without any explanation or notification. Fortunately, nothing happened, or we would have been in trouble. We only found out when we received a final bill for $80. We were uninsured for over two months without realizing it. They did reinstate us without a lapse, but I ultimately canceled the policy.

One of the worst customer service companies I have ever dealt with in the industry. Their website is consistently malfunctioning, and I get "page not found" errors, etc. They increase your premiums by 26% or more with no claims and no indication until you remove your auto payment and wonder what is going on when they take an extra $600 or more from your auto payment. If you do have a claim, they are very, very slow, and I ended up with 4 different claims people handling my account for the same claim, having to explain everything over and over again. Find another insurer.

I have been trying to get my car repaired for over 40 days. I was told it needed investigation because my son hit a deer. I keep being told to talk to the adjuster. She tells me to talk to the investigator. They keep sending me back and forth. They had the car towed to their contracted shop. The mechanic is frustrated because he can't get approval to repair the car. It has been over 40 days, and they keep asking for more information. I send what they ask for, then a week or two later they ask for something else. I'm still waiting; they don't return calls and ignore me. The investigator likes to email, just to ask for more and more unnecessary information and then says to talk to someone else, like the adjuster. It's a mess. Do not use this company; they don't care about their clients and treat you poorly.

I have received a renewal umbrella notice today. I noticed they have increased my rate by over 100%. I called customer service for the reason, and they could not provide a reasonable explanation; instead, they only provided a general reason that all insurance policies in California have increased. The question then is, by what percentage? Why must an insurance policy without any claims increase by over 100%? Unfortunately, I see customer service quality in connect is declining over time and rates are increasing. This has a negative impact on choosing connect in future...

First off, after initiating my claim, the agent told me they would tow my car from the body shop to place it on a rack to assess the physical damages in person; that was a big lie. Instead, they towed my car to a salvage yard that would later end up on an auction list, creating a nightmare for me to retrieve it. The claim adjuster assigned to my case never contacted me to introduce himself or explain the process. I could never get a straightforward answer from him. Once I communicated to him that I wanted to repurchase my car, several issues started. For one, I found out they assessed the physical damages to my car virtually, so why tow my car to a salvage yard if you can't evaluate damages physically? On Friday, February 7, 2025, I paid for towing services to have my car brought to a shop to start repairs and avoid paying a hefty rental car fee out of my pocket. The tow truck driver couldn't leave with my car because it had been mistakenly placed on an auction list. After demanding to speak to a manager or supervisor, they told me IAA would release my car to the tow driver. I requested to have my car towed as soon as possible, and she told me it would be within the next couple of days; however, after speaking to her on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, via text asking for the status or any updates, she told me my car would take days to get towed, which is unacceptable. The process has been a complete sham, with unethical behavior, lies, fabricated stories, and a lack of communication. I could go on; however, I will file a complaint with my attorney and the Texas Department of Insurance. After standing my ground, I received an email showing a decreased amount in my total loss payout; however, after calling and bringing it to someone's attention, they corrected the payout amount. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Connect Auto.

I've had car and house insurance bundled through Costco CONNECT, a subsidiary of American Family Insurance, for a decade. Throughout that time, I tolerated the typical annual and semi-annual rate increases, but this last unreasonable increase, with no claims, coupled with phone calls to discuss my homeowners insurance policy, ended my partnership with their company. I spent over an hour on the phone with two different agents since the first one could not answer my questions. Why, for one example, is there a line item cost of $74 for sewer backup, but when you delete that coverage, the policy premium goes down by only $3? The second agent told me everything is intertwined within the policy. My response was that whoever is the underwriter of the policies has tried and succeeded in making it less comprehensible and so convoluted as to even push it past the understanding of their agents. My one call for a battery jump for a car at my home took 24 hours to service. Subsequent complaints resulted in nothing. The result of shopping around found me better coverage at one-third the cost for car insurance and a saving of over $200 on home insurance. I determined this is a greedy company that may be in trouble due to bad coverage in some other area of the country.

Roadside Service? It's a joke. Let's start with the representatives in the Midwest handling roadside service requests—who I could barely understand. I requested a tow truck and paid extra for the longer tow as nightfall was approaching. The towing service provider arrives 90 minutes later (it's now dark and my emergency blinkers are not working) and cannot locate me with the address given. Instead of a tow truck, the provider sent a car. The provider arrives in the dark, and the driver, unable to speak English fluently, attempts to use his iPhone app to translate our conversation unsuccessfully. Despite this, he insists my car is safe to drive after the jump, suggesting I drive home on the freeway, which could have led to an accident since the alternator was out, affecting the full use of the brakes, etc. I call the service hotline back, imploring them to PLEASE send the tow truck I paid for. Now I must wait an additional 90 minutes. Frustrated with Connect and its insurers, I canceled my insurance that night and arranged my own service. Connect is unreliable—think of it as subpar quality.

Do not use them. They charged my credit card for my daughter, who lives in another state, because they said she is a car driver on my policy. She has never been on my policy. I had to send them her lease agreement and a letter stating that she does not live with me and does not drive my car. They charged $646 and said they are only able to credit $517. This is outrageous! I have filed a dispute with my credit card company.

They overstate the value of your property to put you into a higher band, which allows them to inflate other coverages and drive up your premium by almost double in two years. We are not Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, or, for that matter, California. The modeling they use is designed to maximize returns for this privately-held company.

Yes, Connect offers a defensive driving course discount, but only in states that legally mandate it. Thirty-four states and the District of Columbia require insurance companies to provide a defensive driving discount to eligible drivers, though exact discount amounts and requirements vary.
If Connect does not offer a defensive driving discount in your state, you should still consider taking a course. By going to traffic school, you can learn how to better avoid at-fault accidents and moving violations, which would increase your Connect premium. In some states, defensive driving courses can even reduce points on your license or prevent a moving violation from going on your record.

Yes, Connect has accident forgiveness for car insurance customers. Connect accident forgiveness applies to one accident every three years, and it can be earned for free if you've been a Connect customer for at least three years without any accidents.
Keep in mind that Connect accident forgiveness is per policy, not per driver. As a result, if one driver on a shared policy caused an accident in the past three years, the other named drivers...
You can get a Connect good student discount if you have at least a B average. Student drivers can save as long as they are full time high school or college students.
Young drivers are usually quite expensive to insure since they lack driving experience. However, Connect offers a good student discount because having good grades shows the insurer that you are responsible off the road, meaning you're more likely to be responsible in...
To cancel Connect insurance, the policyholder must contact a customer service representative at (888) 239-9953. The cancellation can be arranged for a future date or set to take effect immediately. You will need your name, policy number, and the date you want your policy to end. If you've already paid your premium for the policy period in full, Connect will refund the unused portion, minus any cancellation fees.
Yes, Connect offers gap insurance as an optional policy add-on. Connect gap insurance pays the difference between a totaled car's actual cash value and your remaining loan or lease balance, though you will be responsible for paying a deductible.
The cost of Connect gap insurance depends on factors like your state and your vehicle's value. Regardless, purchasing gap insurance from an insurance company is usually a better investment than purchasing this coverage from a dealership, where...
