I used Root Insurance a few years ago. I totaled my car and went to file a claim but never heard back. A few months later, I received a call stating that there was a repossession on my credit report. So, I called Root Insurance and was told that they dropped me as a client the day before the wreck (how convenient), and that they had sent me an email and a letter in the mail, neither of which I received. I was told that they would not do anything and it was my fault for them not covering it now im stcul woth a repossession on my credit. Terrible insurance company!

This company overcharges for car insurance; they charge over $500 for full coverage and $300 for liability. I left them and now pay less than their liability for both cars. I would not recommend this insurance company, as they are dishonest about the safe driver discount.

Absolutely horrible. I recently cancelled because I was told on July 14th that my insurance is $145 a month. Then, last night, they emailed me and said that my insurance for August 10th is $183. After cancellation, I got charged $50, and I will not do business with these unscrupulous individuals because I received no explanation for why my insurance increased. If I could give a zero, I would. Anyone looking at these individuals for insurance should look elsewhere because I found a better deal through Geico for $108 a month for my 2011 Escape. That includes things that Root Insurance didn't have for $145, like comprehensive collision coverage, uninsured motorist protection, and coverage for medical care from an accident. I have let friends and family know to stay away from Root Insurance.

Quite possibly the worst car insurance I've ever had. They are happy to take your money but don't want to help you as they should. They've given us the biggest runaround and just want it to be everyone else's problem. It's been over two weeks and I haven't heard from them. When I call and finally get hold of them, I get the same response of "I'll talk to my manager and call you back," along with "You should have read your policy before you signed it!" What do I pay them for?

Root is the worst fraudulent insurance company I have seen over the years! You cannot compare it with Progressive because Progressive will not fraudulently go into your account and use your card without your consent to take your money. Root will do that easily. I have a premium which I pay monthly, and I have never defaulted. I was expected to pay by calling in, and suddenly the moment I sent them an email, and I went into their app to cancel, they started using the old card, and all the cards I had used to make payments in the past, and they started taking my money despite cancellation. If you use them, you are on your own because they exploit you as if you will never see a cheaper alternative. But when I went to Progressive, they were cheaper and reliable. I have decided to take them to court if they refuse to return my money in the next 24 hours because they committed fraud by taking my money without my consent, and I did not authorize the auto-pay, so why after 7 days did they still go into my account to take my money? They are scam based!

I literally needed to switch to another insurance company for a cheaper price after buying a new vehicle and was wanting to cancel this policy for my vehicle I just sold (which I was paid up on and current), and they charged me $50 for no apparent reason.

I was with them for over four years, and then all of a sudden, one day they raised my rate by more than $70 per month without any explanation. The response from customer service about the rate hike was not appropriate, and they offered no documentation for the reason for the rate change after several requests. I submitted it to my attorney, and I will be getting my money back. I suggest everyone do the same! Shame on you, Root! Also, stop paying to push the negative reviews to the bottom of your listings. That's not a good business practice. I hope you all have the day you deserve!

I wanted to add another vehicle to my insurance and decided to try the suggested insurance for me on the Experian site. I added another vehicle with an upgraded policy. I received a quote that looked favorable from Root Insurance. I paid with my credit card, and then the site said I would have to wait a few hours until my quote was finalized. When they came back, I got a ridiculously high quote, all the while thinking I was paying what they initially quoted, which I had already paid for.

The policy was high-priced initially. After the initial test drive with the app, they determined I was a good driver and informed me they discounted the rate by $5. Then, when I found cheaper insurance and proceeded to cancel, I had paid $169.00 for one month of insurance. It wasn't due until the 12th. I canceled it on the 30th, and they are refunding me $27.00. Their rates are poor, and the company is a joke in my opinion. I would never use Root again.

Over priced and won't help you whatsoever. They make their final decisions on pictures and tell you if you file a claim your premium will go up. We had a sunroof leaking after a snow storm and rain storm...we have comprehensive insurance which is supposed to cover weather related events...the sunroof is literally leaking on my lap when driving. This happened after a snow storm. What's the point of insurance if you can't use it. They are not FOR YOU...they are AGAINST YOU. They will do whatever they can to save a buck and NOT HELP YOU IN YOUR TIME OF NEED. Crooks! The lot of them.

I had a terrible experience with Root Car Insurance; DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY! First, they charged me $300 a month for a 2017 model, but after my first 6 months, my renewal rate went up to $399. When I asked why, considering I barely drive—literally, I go to the grocery store a mile away once a week—they had no real answer. As I had already informed them that $300 was too much, I told them I would not be renewing my policy with them. I informed them i already found another company. The company im now with charges based on the low miles I drive, which brought my payment down to $89 for the same exact coverage. HOWEVER, THIS IS ONLY WHERE MY PROBLEMS PROBLEMS BEGAN. The day I noticed my payment had increased, I immediately found another company. The following day, I called to inform them, and the next day I received a letter stating that if I did not pay by October 31st, my insurance would be canceled as of November 1st; my Root app confirmed the same. October, November, and December went by as I paid for car insurance through another company. Then, in January, I was hit with a $400 charge from Root Car Insurance. I called to tell them the entire story, and they said they'd need time to review my case, asking me to send all the information such as who my new car insurance company is and my bank statements showing the payments. Much later, they wrote in an email that they do not owe me a refund. They're clearly unscrupulous. Do not do business with this company!
