I canceled policy, still got charged for it.
Confusing to canceled.
Not very clear and transparent.

i’m a new customer, decent driving history. i’m already paying a ridiculous amount upfront, and the location tracking is just heinous. where is my driving data being stored? this company now knows where i work, sleep, and spend my time… that’s disgusting. most of the time, I AM PASSENGER AND I USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. and there is absolutely no way for the root app to know! there’s nothing i can adjust to tell that *i* wasn’t driving. cannot tell my drivers how to drive, their car, their OWN INSURANCE. this is messing with my score for this scam fueled agency. insurance is a scam and already unaffordable so let’s just make it even more expensive right? and based off other reviews from the agency, my demographic and location, i am BOUND to get a monthly rate jacked to at least $600. fraudulent truly. its completely unaffordable. im throwing shade to every insurance agency, not just this one.

Check your policy terms beforehand! Root insurance is known for not putting comprehensive and collision protection on your policy like other companies do. This means if you crash your car into a tree you aren’t covered and lose the whole value of the vehicle. Most financed vehicles require comprehensive and collision and Root knows this, but they will still sell you a policy without it knowing your vehicle is financed. This should be illegal and this company is a SCAM! Do NOT buy insurance from them.

I had root insurance and was in a total loss wreck in December of 2025. I was assigned Daniza Giles as my agent. For two weeks I could not get ahold of Daniza, had no rental car even though I had paid for coverage, and had no updates on what was going on with my car. When I asked for a new agent that would respond, root refused to assign me a new agent. I had to call everyday for two weeks to finally be able to speak to a supervisor that finally helped me and got me into a rental and got the loss moving on my car.

Now here we are in April, i have a new vehicle and new car insurance so I would no longer have issues with Root. As it turns out, I was pulled over after an officer ran my plates only to tell me my license was suspended in March due to Root’s negligence in submitting the certificate of coverage to Indiana’s BMV, so now it looks as if I had no coverage at all during my accident! Wouldn’t you know, Daniza Giles was responsible for submitting it and never did. Wouldnt you also know, Daniza is conveniently not in the office again for another week and no one wants to help me get the form submitted to get my license unsuspended. As well as pay $250 in fines for a suspended license that I should have never had. Two kids and a full time job that I cannot take to school or show up to work now, and root wants to play with people’s lives and wellbeing. I will have a lawyer involved if it has not been submitted to the BMV by April 15th.

Would never recommend this company to anyone, for any insurance at all. A joke of a company is all it is.

Horrible! I will claim about a month ago. It wasn’t my fault and still nothing has been fixed. They are horrible. I would not get this car insurance.

They are so slow on claims. It's going on three months, and still nothing has been done about our car. The accident wasn't even our fault. So sad.

Let me start by saying if I were dying, I wouldn't use this insurance as a lifeline. I have never encountered an insurance that lies and knows they are being recorded, and the supervisors are worse. These people tell me to choose them at $491.00, and the second month they will lower my payment every month until it reaches $272.00. I don't have any speeding tickets; where I live, you must be careful at all times. I have no reckless driving tickets. I do have one citation for not yielding, which was $99.00. The others are three hit-and-runs; these are not my fault. Then they cancelled my insurance first and then went into my account and took the payment out. I'm so sick of liars! Now I have insurance with a great company that is knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring. Please, please don't choose this company! I wish I could give no stars! 😡 If you are disabled or elderly, that's who they target the most, and I am both.

Root Insurance is a scam! They take your money and do nothing to protect you or even work with you! I filed a claim a month ago and still, no one has gotten back to me. They keep taking my money, and day after day, they will not process my claim. Don't trust them, ever!

I hit a deer, the body shop got the car work done. Root insurance won't pay the claim! When I call, they give me the runaround and say yes, they have paid. The body shop states they haven't received payment. Do not ever use Root; they definitely are not trustworthy!

I just signed up with this insurance company, stating a $97 down payment and $156 a month. They took my money, but I received no insurance paperwork or anything. When I downloaded the app and created an account, it states that I need a quote for insurance, but I have already paid and should have a policy. Please return my money; you are a fraudulent company, and I hope for you to be shut down for falsely claiming to be an insurance provider.

This is a really poor company. Even though the police report clearly states that the collision is their insured's fault, they still refused to pay for the repairs.

The one star is generous. This company is unsatisfactory. Point blank and simple. High premiums and unrealistic monthly payments. It amazes me that this company refused to help me. How can you expect someone to afford insurance at $600/month? That is what I would have had to pay to have comprehensive and collision coverage. All the money you take from people and you "can't help" is complete nonsense. I'm so glad I left them behind and I will do my due diligence to ensure every website is aware of how unethical this company is.

The worst insurance company ever. They fraudulently withdraw money from your account without your authorization. When you call to get it resolved, you can't even understand what they are saying. The one star is completely too generous. If I could give them negative five stars, I would.

I do not recommend this company. They start with a low rate but gradually introduce new charges, resulting in a monthly cost that is twice as much as that of other insurance providers. I was paying $408 per month with Root, but after switching to Progressive, I pay only $200 per month. When I canceled my insurance with Root, they had just withdrawn $408 from my account on the day of cancellation, but they only refunded me $245 of that amount. I believe they are unfair and deceptive. I am filing a complaint with the insurance commissioner.

I used Root Insurance a few years ago. I totaled my car and went to file a claim but never heard back. A few months later, I received a call stating that there was a repossession on my credit report. So, I called Root Insurance and was told that they dropped me as a client the day before the wreck (how convenient), and that they had sent me an email and a letter in the mail, neither of which I received. I was told that they would not do anything and it was my fault for them not covering it now im stcul woth a repossession on my credit. Terrible insurance company!
