Horrible scamming company! Don't do it, you'll regret it! My vehicle was involved in a minor accident back in September 2025, and here it is February 2026, and it's still in the shop waiting on payment from Direct Auto. They don't care; you can't even get a person on the phone, and the adjuster, who is from another state, never answers or returns calls. It's a joke. Stay away!

Direct is an unscrupulous company. If you take out insurance with monthly payments and have been with them for two months—say you are paying $200 a month—and you decide to cancel your policy after two months, be prepared to receive a bill for $2,050.00. This includes a $50 cancellation fee plus the charges for the remainder of the year, despite being on a monthly payment plan.

Worst company ever. The moment you have to file a claim, they deny it and then drop you from the insurance because they don't want to pay out any money. We filed a claim for a tree falling on our truck and they decided they didn't want to pay it and said they are dropping our policy. What a joke; all they want is your money, but when it comes time for them to pay up, they drop you.

I have been a customer of Direct for over three years, and I have discovered that they added an individual I do not even know to my insurance and raised my rates. They cannot explain this to me, other than the person they added to my insurance had the same address as an old address where I lived over a year ago. My rates have gone up, and they have explained to me that until I provide papers stating that I don't know this person, my rates will continue to rise. Every single month, they will reinstate them onto my insurance without my authorization. This is not a company you want to deal with. I have had no accidents and no tickets in the past 20 years, and my rate has steadily increased every year; now, it has doubled since they added this person to my insurance. They lied and said the DMV was responsible. The DMV did not do this, as it is illegal for them to do so. I am canceling my insurance and going with State Farm.

If I could leave zero or negative stars, I would. As a business owner, I understand how important good reviews are. I also know that a bad review can majorly hurt a company, so I almost never resort to writing one. Direct Auto, however, has earned every word of this review. If you are considering using them, I would strongly advise against it. Allow me to explain why. I've used them for a few years now; the first year, there was a minor issue with the renewal process, but it wasn't too bad, and I was made aware of it in advance. The last two years, however, when it was time, they have stopped taking the auto-pay from my account and only informed me after my policy was overdue and in cancellation status. And since the state of Alabama (and likely your state as well) has a deal with the auto insurance industry, you have no choice but to pay their exorbitant reinstatement fee or be fined even more by the state for letting it lapse. So I paid and was assured that the auto-pay would work from here on out. Come January, yet again, it hasn't been coming out, leading to another substantial late fee to avoid losing coverage and being penalized by the state. Despite being told that if I paid the late fee and the large reinstatement fee (making the bill three times more expensive than what I actually owed), I wouldn't have to worry about it failing again. I can't even imagine, though judging from all of their reviews, how terrible it would be to rely on them to do their job and pay out in the event of an accident. I know that it would be a nightmare. Trust me, and everyone else who has reviewed them across every review site, you do not want to use this company. Their customer service is just as ineffective as their coverage. You might pay more elsewhere, but not in the long run, and certainly not if you ever actually need them. They will find ways to incur fees and won't inform you until it's too late. Or, as in my case, not until you owe an exorbitant reinstatement fee on top of the late fee due to their failure to process the auto-pay. Find somewhere else, any other place, and you will have a much easier time. Worst insurance company in the world; they don't deserve the one star I had to give them to leave this review. Don't believe me? That's fair. Please continue reading the rest of their reviews, anywhere you can find them. That is why they had to disable reviews on Google; they are that abysmal.

If you have any other option, I would take it. Pray you never have to actually submit a claim through these people. Their app is subpar and is frequently hacked, so rest assured your personal information will probably get leaked if you are forced to use high-risk insurance. It's okay; Direct Auto, The General, or should I say, Shaq insurance, is just as subpar. The agents I've spoken with, on the other hand, seem like decent people; it's a shame they have to advertise for such a terrible product.

Please stay away from this company! I am disabled, and they still left me on the side of the road like roadkill. I asked if my payment could align with my check date—no. I didn't have any faults or points on my driving record. Also, my credit is fair. Age 53-55, just liability coverage $752.15, when the bill was $178.00. They listed my mother, father, brother, just because this is my mailing address. What am I driving, a jet? Run fast from this fraud—not even a whole one—zero.

I purchased Direct Auto insurance on June 13th, 2025. My quote for my liability insurance was $54 and some change initially, and then $75 and some change a month. In July, when my bill was due, I noticed a different amount taken out of my check for $93 and some change. So, I called them, and they told me that I hadn't completed my contract and that I needed proof of my old insurance and my daughter's driving license, which they never initially requested. I would never recommend Direct Auto insurance to my friends or anyone else. I believe the original quote should be honored for the duration of the contract. I give them a 0. Also, the person who sold me the insurance, Teresa, I give her a 0 as well—she should have been upfront with me and informed me about everything. There shouldn't have been any surprises regarding different prices in my bank account.

It started out fine. However, after three months of direct deposit, they sent emails about cancellation and charged a late fee when we would call and have them use the card on file. The money was there; they just messed it up somehow and then charged me a fee for their mistake. Then, when I went to cancel after paying for the next month that same week, they wanted to charge me over $100 to cancel since it was under half a year. They broke the contract by not following the payment withdrawals and then charging me a fee for the trouble. Please avoid this company.

Absolute crooks! This company has put me through the wringer. I literally had my car for less than 30 days when we got hit by a hail storm. Dents all over it. The adjuster comes out and says paintless dent repair will fix it. I don't know how, seeing that the paint is all chipped up. Then they say my $1000 deductible is $3000 because of a sliding scale. Whatever that means! I pay these individuals $205 a month for full coverage that won't fix anything. The worst insurance company ever and I plan to report them to the Ohio attorney general.

This is a scam - terrible insurance. My dad's insurance premium increased by 32 dollars in the third month. They also charged him a 35-dollar fee for canceling the policy. I wish I had read the reviews before obtaining a policy with this unknown insurance company. Someone needs to investigate the legitimacy of their business practices and take legal action against them. Stay away from this company!
