I called up delta dental in early December 22 and told them to cancel my policy. They agreed to cancel my policy and continued to charge my credit card. After great difficulty I managed to contact them and told them again to cancel my policy and they agreed to send me a refund. Instead the continue to bill me and there is no refund. Finally I asked my credit card company to dispute their charges and that is where I am at. I do not see how this company can have 3.5 ratings when what I see is mostly one star ratings by irate customers like me.

They don't cover anything. You end up paying the same amount you would have without the insurance. It's a total scam, regardless of whether you go in network or out.

I would give zero stars if I could. I had half my face swell up and needed an emergency root canal. It was in the evening and the only dentist available was out of network....it had to be done before the infection spread even more. The total bill was 1900...including 1350 for the actual root canal. Dental dental claims they would only pay a dentist 378 for a root canal so I was reimbursed 179. The root canal took 4 hours total...I find it hard to believe any dentist would accept that for that amount of time. I was also reimbursed 22 for an exam. So for a 1900 dollar bill I was reimbursed 200. Beware if you think you will be even partially covered. I expected to be reimbursed somewhere between 400 to 600...What a joke.

I'm convinced this company is a scam. I paid them, they promised coverage, and did not deliver it. The one time I was able to reach them via phone (after, no joke, a 3.5 hour hold) they told me they were "handling it" - only to be told by my dentist that I'm on the hook for $1500 worth of dental work.
Attempts to contact Delta about the issue via their online forms, email, and phone have all been unsuccessful. Please avoid for your own sanity.

Extremely rude customer support. Cross your fingers you never have to inquire about a claim with customer support. I don't think I've ever encountered a more rude customer service representative in my life. Fingers crossed the company chooses a different dental provider. If you have options- stay away. This company is lacking in communication, transparency, people skills and who knows what else. I am sure I will find out the difficult way.

Horrible misleading coverage. On plan, they say 80% coverage for xray, and no where do they say $50 copay for xray for every year. Customer service is not helpful because they can't answer questions. Coverage is a joke, they don't want to pay for anything, why even have dental insurance when you have to pay for everything like basic cleaning.

Really dishonest coverage. I had a $220 emergency front tooth filling that they only covered $25 worth, that's 11%. They claim they cover 80% of this service. What they really do is cap your service cost at $135 and then make you pay a $100 deductible, leaving them to only pay 80% of $35. My employer pays $60 a month. It's a scam, really disappointed in Delta Dental. I've requested a new insurance provider and made a formal complaint to my employer.

Unfortunately, my employer chose Delta Dental for regular dental coverage. I am constantly amazed at how absolutely worthless their dental "coverage" is. The closest "in-network" dentist is 100 miles away, so at best, it is more like a dental savings account where I can claim only up to the amount they receive in premiums. At worst, it is a total loser when they pay out far less than they receive in premiums Really, it's just a sham.

100% a scam. Here's what you need to understand: dental insurance isn't insurance, it is basically an enforced savings account - with some nasty catches. For my plan, as an example, you pay them (save) slightly less than $60/month, and you get up to $1000 a year in benefits. Period. So - math time: Paying your premium costs about $700 a year, so if your dental work costs $700/year (hint: it doesn't!), you've basically been forced to save what you need. IF you happen to need more, you get an extra $300.
Here are the problems: 1. Most years, you will spend significantly less at the dentists so that that $300 bonus doesn't work out in your favor. 2. Unlike a regular savings account, when you don't use your $1k by the end of the year, they take the rest and you never see it again. 3. THEY get to choose what they will and will not pay for!
Bottom line: Toss your premium in your savings account instead. You will have more than enough to cover your yearly expenses, and should you need major work done, the insurance company wasn't actually going to pay for it anyways beyond that extra $300. It's a real shocker that it's even legal for them to call it insurance.

Worst dental insurance ever. My employer uses them for dental insurance, I will be opting out next time around if they continue to use Delta Dental. I would rather pay out of pocket and know exactly what I am paying instead of having Delta Dental give me hope that they will reimburse me most of my out of pocket payment. No they didn't even cover half because I used an out of network provider, which I didn't know was an out of network provider since my 5 year old was the one getting the procedure (not many places do pediatric work) . Now I'm struggling to pay my car payment this month thinking I had more coming in my reimbursement check. DO NOT USE DELTA DENTAL, pay the little bit extra for another insurance company or just pay out of pocket. Don't give Delta Dental a dime of your money, you will be very disappointed.
