I signed up in 2024 for Delta Dental no-waiting-period policy through an outside administrator named Morgan White. I was told that if I wanted to switch to a PPO premium directly from Delta Dental, they would waive the waiting period because I had been on my current no-waiting-period for a year. Well, it's a year and a half now.
Morgan tells me that I can switch and waive the waiting period. When I call Sales, they can't find my current policy I'm on now and say I have to wait. When I asked why Morgan White says I can waive it and you can't, the answer I got was, 'Well, it's like you go to a car dealer; they will tell you anything to get your sale.' I hung up on her. I tried to complain, but of course, I can't.

Garbage company that is just a parasite. It is downright impossible to contact them or dispute any denied claims, send feedback, etc. All from a company that has broken profit records every year. It's almost like their business model is taking your money and giving as little back as possible. #luigiwasright

I made the biggest mistake by choosing Delta Dental. They say they have providers everywhere, but the closest dentist to me is over an hour away. Please do your research before choosing Delta Dental. I'm dropping them as soon as open enrollment comes.

In November 2025, I signed up for a Delta Dental policy at the suggestion of my new dentist in Woodland Park, Colorado. Everything seemed to go well, and they emailed my insurance cards. I agreed to pay through my checking account, having the payment (about $60 per month) deducted monthly.
At that point, I made an appointment with my dentist to have an expensive treatment. Within days, I received a curt letter from Delta Dental saying that my insurance had been canceled for non-payment. I called the service number in the letter. The person who answered said that I had not paid the first month's premium, so not only was my service canceled, but I would also not be allowed to try to re-enroll for 12 months. I assured her that Delta Dental had not contacted me about the payment, and she asked whether I had checked my spam folder. Of course! I check my spam folder every day, just in case some company is trying to get in touch. So, I checked, and, as I expected, there was no spammed email from Delta Dental.
All of this sounds very suspicious to me, but there is no recourse—I feel like I'm stuck in some "1984"-style scam. In short, I would not recommend that you sign up for this company's "service." If you do, don't be surprised if they make it very difficult to collect on a claim.

They provide out-of-pocket patient cost estimates to providers, then fail to honor them with unexpected later billings to the patient. Their phone number is not displayed on their card or anywhere on their website, although it can be found via a Google search. However, it is extremely difficult to connect with a competent human agent to resolve issues, as access is obstructed by a time-wasting phone AI system. Delta was much better and easier to deal with when they were associated with Costco; this has since changed.

OMG! How do they even stay in business? Two hours on the phone today to correct a simple mistake that they created, and still no resolution. If you have had the misfortune of dealing with them, you know what I mean. Simply terrible! One star is being generous.

Well, duh... I went through the years of coverage, and I would have been better off financially by setting the premium aside for seeing the dentist. My own error... Essentially, you are getting a dollar amount per year of coverage that is quite limited. It's basically pre-paid semi-annual cleaning. They do not cover the most up-to-date treatments or diagnostic imaging. If you have an exam when your teeth are cleaned, they will not pay if you have a tooth problem before six months pass. Also, just as a bit of humor, I had to have a tooth pulled that had an old crown—I received more for the gold than for the surgeon. Do the math—dental insurance is really a raw deal.

Not sure how WalletHub showed a 3.0 average when the majority I saw was 1 or 2 stars. I was on VADIP, which stands for VA Dental Insurance Program. Very unhappy about how it all came about. Things were okay until I decided to get Aspen Dental's version of Invisalign called MOTTO. It appeared on an insurance list of what was supposedly covered, including MOTTO, where they indicated $4000 of essentially an overall cost of $5000. So when I went in to see the service manager, she suggested I put down $1000, and they would get started that day. Long story short, Delta Dental rejected the plan, I was committed, and they wouldn't do the rest of the work until I paid off the balance. Lesson learned: before you have anything done, don't trust the dental office that you're covered. All the paperwork you sign before the work is done has a clause stating you will pay for any costs not covered by Delta Dental. I felt that as a veteran, I should not have been treated like this. Aspen Dental called me 2 months after I had the work done to tell me I wasn't covered.

You're better off without insurance than with this company. If you move states, they will count the X-rays from the previous state in your new policy, and on top of that, you have a brand new waiting period, enjoy! Coming from a dental assistant of 13 years.

They have lost a lot of good dentists that used to be in the network. I am not sure if they don't pay enough or allow most procedures. Everyone I know who has Delta has seen their dentist drop out of Delta.

Delta Dental is cunningly designed to make consumers believe they are going to receive some benefit for the premiums they've been paying. Let me tell you, it's not going to happen! They have arranged their contracts to include clauses that state they can exclude coverage for a variety of reasons, to which they've assigned specific names, like one of my personal "favorites," "alternate benefit." Whoever in the company conceived this term likely received a raise and a promotion. It means that if you need implants and you are missing more than one tooth, they won't pay. Instead, they may contribute a few hundred dollars towards a partial denture. I obtained this policy specifically for the implant coverage and have been paying premiums during the waiting period for coverage, only to find out that it was futile. Don't waste your money; these people are not to be trusted.

I would hardly call Delta Dental insurance. My plan has a maximum payout of $1,500 per year, and we pay about $1,000 for the plan. That amounts to a $500 benefit, which is disappointing. By the way, I had a difficult time finding a contact number for Delta Dental; it seems they prefer you to send emails with any inquiries. However, this number worked for me: 800-521-2651. Good luck!

Delta Dental Review: Outraged, Disheartened, and Questioning Legitimacy
I am writing this review in a state of absolute shock, disappointment, and disbelief at the conduct of Delta Dental. After years of loyalty, I am left feeling betrayed and financially devastated by what can only be described as a complete failure of duty—and what appears dangerously close to outright criminal behavior.
A Loyal Customer Betrayed
For years, I trusted Delta Dental to provide the coverage they promised. When my decade-old crown failed and required a complex, multi-stage procedure (tooth removal, implant, new crown), I did everything by the book:
Consulted my dentist, who referred me to a specialist. Had the surgeon's office verify my insurance and procedure codes, with their experience indicating 90% coverage. Personally called Delta Dental, and was assured—again, with codes provided—that about 90% of the surgeon's fee would be covered. The Shocking Reality
I paid thousands of dollars upfront, trusting the repeated assurances. After the first stage and claim submission, I was blindsided: Delta Dental covered less than 10% of the cost. Less than 10%! This is not a minor miscalculation—this is a staggering, indefensible discrepancy.
Delta Dental confirmed 90% coverage before the procedure. The actual reimbursement was under 10%. I am now out thousands of dollars, with no recourse or explanation. This Feels Criminal
It is horrifying to realize that, despite clear communication and confirmation—even after sharing the exact procedure codes—Delta Dental's claims process resulted in a payout so low it borders on fraud. How can a company promise one thing and deliver the opposite, leaving customers financially ruined and emotionally shattered?
Is this a systemic issue? How many others have been misled and left in the lurch? How can such practices be considered anything but deceptive and potentially criminal? Demanding Accountability
I demand to know what Delta Dental will do to address this egregious situation. What steps will be taken to:
Rectify the financial harm caused by these false assurances? Restore any semblance of trust or confidence in your company? Prevent this from happening to others in the future? Final Words
As a deeply disheartened, angry, and shocked customer, I urge anyone considering Delta Dental to think twice. My experience has left me questioning not just their competence but the very legitimacy of their claims process. Delta Dental, you owe your customers answers—and justice.

If I could leave a 0-star rating, I would! I have never had such horrible customer service outside of retail or restaurant experiences. Their communication with customers is terrible! I received an email informing me that I needed to pay for two months and that my account would be suspended. I called the customer service number and was told that my payment had gone through and that I did not need to pay anything. The following week I received a letter in the mail stating that my account had been suspended. I called their customer service number and inquired about this and was transferred to a supervisor. The supervisor told me that if the money was in my account, they could reinstate it. I confirmed with them that the money was there, and they told me someone would get back to me by the end of the day to confirm that my account was back in good standing. Three days later, I had not received a call and went to the website to see if my account was still suspended but was unable to see anything as the message I received on the website stated there was no record of my account. I called their office and was told that people were working on getting my account back in good standing. When I asked why no one had called me, I was told that it would take up to 2 weeks before my account was back in good standing. Today I called them and was told that they mailed me a letter two days ago telling me that they could not process my payments and that I was now locked out for a year for coverage with them. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they told me that they had left me a voicemail telling me that they needed to talk with me. When I stated that I had never received any voicemails from them, and questioned when they made these calls, they were unable to tell me, just that multiple calls had been left on my voicemail. When I pressed them further, asking for clarification and a record of when they called, they hung up on me! This is very poor customer service! Their lack of communication and terrible customer service, as well as lying about contacting me in any way to let me know the status or to inform me that they were having trouble processing the payment, indicates a failure to communicate and an apparent tendency for their staff to lie to protect themselves.
