I am writing to express my deep frustration, concern, and disappointment regarding the unresolved issues with my Maytag washer and dryer purchased in 2021, along with the AIG extended warranty. Despite my numerous efforts, the situation has left my family in a state of complete helplessness.
As of October 23, 2024, my washer has been inoperable, and for over 60 days, I have been trying to resolve this issue. I have contacted AIG over 20 times, speaking with multiple representatives, managers, and even recording conversations, only to be met with false promises, misdirection, and no real action. It is incredibly disheartening that despite all these efforts, nothing has been done to resolve this matter.
I have also worked with the service provider, Paul Appliance Service in College Station, dispatched by AIG. Their so-called "Master Technician" has been to my home multiple times, either ordering the wrong parts, receiving broken ones, or simply throwing parts at the problem. Each time, I was told to wait weeks for new parts, only to find out they were once again incorrect or ineffective. The repeated cycle of incompetence from the technician and the rude behavior from the appliance company's receptionist has only added to my distress. They are the only service provider available in my area, leaving me with no alternatives.
This situation has reached a critical point. My family has been battling severe flu and colds over the holidays, and the inability to wash clothing, sheets, and bedding has made it even more difficult. Laundromats were closed during the holiday season, and I was forced to wash laundry in our bathtub. When the laundromats did open, I was paying $90 each week to wash and dry clothes—almost half of my monthly electric bill. My illness, which requires breathing treatments, makes it physically impossible for me to continue hauling laundry bags. The emotional and physical toll of this situation is overwhelming.
I have asked AIG for a buyback or full refund for the washer and dryer that I paid for in full, but to no avail. Instead, on January 8, 2025, AIG forced us into an unacceptable buyout offer of $669, a fraction of the original cost. Today, January 9, 2025, I was informed that the check for this amount has not even been issued. Throughout this entire ordeal, AIG has failed to take appropriate action, and I am being left to handle the situation alone.
My washer has had every part replaced except the computer board. After months of delays and repeated technician visits, I am confident the "Master Technician" was not qualified to diagnose the issue correctly. AIG was aware of the entire situation yet failed to act. Whirlpool and Maytag have also neglected to step in and take responsibility.
We were forced into accepting the buyout because there was no other solution offered, leaving us with an unresolved issue for the dryer, which will still require dealing with AIG—an experience that has destroyed any trust we once had. After spending $2,666 on the washer, dryer, and extended warranty, we have been left with a mere $669, no working washer, no compensation for the excessive laundry costs, and a complete lack of respect for our family’s hardship during this difficult time.
This experience has shown that AIG, Whirlpool, and Maytag have no regard for their customers. Your companies have disregarded our family's needs, our health, and our efforts to resolve this in good faith. You have shown no urgency, professionalism, or care throughout this entire ordeal. I am devastated by how we have been treated, especially during the holidays when our family was ill and without a basic necessity like a functioning washer.
We needed a full replacement or full refund for the washer and dryer, along with a new warranty. Instead, we were treated with blatant disregard, and the financial loss has only added insult to injury. I will never purchase a Maytag or Whirlpool product again, as this experience has shattered the relationship we once had with your brand.
I urge you to reflect on the values and morals your company represents because this situation demonstrates a severe lack of care for your customers.
Sincerely, Desiree

I purchased their insurance protection via Expedia. A rental car company called Zezgo accused me of causing existing dents on their rental car and charged me $2,000. I contacted AIG, but they didn't help. I wasted money for nothing. I shouldn't have purchased insurance protection.

I have had AIG as my renters for quite a while and my mother has had it for her home insurance. Signing up was very easy until customer service messed up everything. They set us up for our renters insurance almost for a month after we were moving in when we clarified the move in date many times. I would say that their problem resolution process is not the best but, they are very competitively priced. My mother has had few issues with her home insurance. I would say AIG is slightly above average and earns a 3 1/2 star rating.

AIG was my first insurance company. My mother was insured with AIG and since I was only 17 when I began driving, I was unable to get insurance on my own, in my own name. I had to be tacked onto my mothers insurance policy. AIG was definitely not the company for me. I asked about discounts with the company but they kept giving me the run around. The company stated that I was not taking particular classes that qualified for a school discount, even though I was an honors student in college courses with above a 3.8 GPA. The company also stated that my vehicle was not eligible for any special privileges such as riding with an on board USB to test out how hard I hit my brakes and other options they offer. The company kept telling us that since I was just an added driver and not the policy holder, I wasn't eligible to receive program discounts. I thought that sounded fishy but my mom didn't want to change insurance companies.
The real problem with AIG came when I had an accident. I dropped something in my lap and spilled soda everywhere. I was looking down and rear ended the car in front of me. I'll admit I did it. I was too busy freaking out about having soaked pants and not busy enough watching the road. When I had the accident, we assumed my car and I were covered with the same insurance benefits as my mom's policy. This was not the case. AIG insisted that we just added me on as a driver with only state minimum liability and that they only covered up to 20,000 worth of damages to the other car and driver. My mother had full coverage and I even heard her tell the agent she needed the best coverage she could get on me because I was a teenager and that accidents could happen with young, new drivers. After this incident with AIG, my mom and I both switched to another company and we couldn't be happier. I'm now old enough for my own policy and we both enjoy benefits and discounts with other insurance companies.
I cannot say anything positive about this company. They were a total let down. I didn't get any discounts with AIG, my mother didn't earn any discounts, and the agent we spoke to kept giving us the run around on pretty much anything we asked about when it came to discounts. I cannot recommend this insurance company, at least not in West Virginia.

I went with AIG insurance for my home when my previous home owner's insurance left a sour taste in my mouth, following an accident in my home. I chose this company due to their competitive rates and the fact that they had an office in town near where I lived. So far I have not had an incident to report to them, so I cannot report on how well they perform in that area. Although, they have made me feel right at home with them from this point. One thing I can say is that the agent I have been dealing with is one of the most courteous and kind people I have ever met, even though the process to obtain my insurance was somewhat of a hassle. There's quite a bit more paperwork involved than I had anticipated and have experienced in the past with other companies. I feel it will all be worth it if something happens though. So, from this point, they have excellent rates and coverage, their agents are exceptional, but the process of obtaining home owner's insurance is a bit lengthy.

I'm currently using AIG as the sole provider of home owner insurance for my home in Florida. I also previously used AIG's Travel Insurance for a summer trip to Europe, the service was outstanding. Signing for AIG home coverage was much simpler than I had originally expected; the entire process took about 2 hours. My agent was extremely helpful and made sure to check and see whether I was eligible for their numerous home owners discounts. I've had AIG's Home Owners insurance for nearly 8 months now and have never had any issues in regard to customer service. If your on the market for any form of consumer, or even business, insurance, I highly recommend AIGs line of products.
