San Diego County Credit Union Reviews
What's Your Rating?
They exploit every member who is currently living paycheck-to-paycheck with their overdraft practices, imposing transactions as little as a few cents with $32 fees that can easily accumulate into a significant amount of new debt, even if the transactions total less than $5. There is no grace period, nor will they show leniency for the first time, and they often charge multiple fees. They collect the most overdraft fees of any San Diego-based credit union. They collected as much as $18 million in overdraft fees in 2022, and the CEO is the most well-compensated credit union executive in the county.
Their overdraft practices are so aggressive that they will sometimes impose overdraft fees when their system is down. On more than one occasion, I noticed that my online bank account balances were incorrect. Their system reflected that I was a couple hundred dollars in the negative when my account should have been positive. I tried to deposit cash into the ATMs to correct my account in their system, but all the ATMs were out of service. When everything came back online, my bank account had been charged with overdraft fees for being in the negative, when the only reason it was negative was because of their own system error.
Regarding online banking, their banking app is among the most outdated and difficult to navigate. Additionally, they don't support Zelle, and their ATMs have the potential to damage your card. They don't have the capability to issue new cards at the branches. Because of the numerous issues I encountered while banking with SDCCU, I decided to close my account.
If you are considering switching to a San Diego-based credit union, literally any other credit union would be immensely better than this one.
This used to be an Employees' Credit Union for San Diego County employees. Since that changed, it has become nothing more than a commercial bank. Its rates are high, its rejection rate is high and unusual, among other issues.
They hold my primary credit card as we get rewards of up to 1.5% towards airline rewards, the predominant reason I have the card. Recently our card was compromised, and I requested a new card on a Saturday. As of Wednesday, it was still being processed.
We have high six-figure amounts of money in the credit union between them and their investment group. They wanted a whopping $50 to expedite shipping of a new card. Really?
First they qualified us for a loan for $30k. My husband took their promissory note to the dealership and “bought” car. When he returned to the bank to finalize the paperwork they decreased the amount by $8,000!! He then spent hours at the bank while they worked on it continually asking more information (documentation) from him. They stayed 30 minutes past closing time so he had to go back the next day to finalize it.
He then drove the paperwork up to the dealership only to find out 4 days later that the bank made an error on the loan by not putting the dealership’s name on the check. Even though its the banks mistake they’re asking us to drive to the dealership to bring them the wrong paperwork, then we’ll have to wait while they fix their mistake and we have to drive it back out to the dealership.
I’m very unimpressed with the customer service in this error. I’d like to cancel the loan and take our business elsewhere now but they say we can’t even do that
They are so incompetent that they warn you all the time about protecting yourself from social media scams, yet they allow their Facebook page to be filled with scammers posting comments because apparently no one manages that asset in the bank.
Do yourself a favor and stay far away from them.
