Extremely frustrating experience.
Went in with a basic business banking question and was met with zero real solutions. I was told to file multiple name variations with the state and to manually alter checks just to deposit them.
No effort was made to fix the underlying issue or even properly review my account setup. The overall tone was dismissive and unhelpful.
After 20 years in business, I expected a lot more from a bank.

About 8 years ago, I opened an account at Santander for convenience, close to home. At that time, people at the bank offered excellent service; however, the app did not function well, so I closed that account. Now, I've been hoping the online service has improved over the years and I could open an account at Santander for convenience close to home. Not a chance after reading a lot of reviews!

This bank repossessed our vehicle without ever notifying us that we were behind in payments. When we discovered we were behind, we immediately called to pay any overdue balance, and they said, "No, we are selling your truck." They entered our property, took the vehicle, and wouldn't disclose its location or who had it. They also wouldn't tell us where our belongings were or how we could retrieve them. We paid off the loan and, after eight days of being given the runaround, we got our vehicle back with damage. They have so far refused to pay for the repairs. Do not use this bank, as they do not care about their customers.

Santander, the IT team!
At about 3:00 today (after normal 6:00 AM access), I discovered I was locked out of both my business and my personal online access. Credentials that were carved in marble were no longer recognized through either app. I was horrified in case someone had hijacked my accounts and I could watch my money disappear. Large end-of-week deposits would land and potentially be taken without my knowledge. A call to personal banking support (not available on the weekend - a downside) led to, "Yes, I see you are you; now go to a branch (Monday) and they can help." In desperation, I retried accessing without the app (by manual line entry) and, lo and behold - success! All monies were there, so as I had suspected (and was refuted), this appeared to be an IT issue rather than an intrusion (thankfully). I called back to report to customer service representative and a different individual (Jose) shared that, yes, there are reports of what I experienced and IT is "working on it." Thank you, Jose, but why did your colleagues not know this?
So final assessment: 1. Santander customer service representatives are marginal overall (not Jose) and just barely passable based on a lack of situational awareness I would never allow in my animal hospital. 2. Santander IT specialists are underperforming - have been for a while, and should consider their positions (probably overseas entities), since beyond this issue, every 'update' leads to 'unexpected issues' with the customer experience. 3. As a result, Santander apps, both for business or personal banking, are unreliable due to structural instability and insecurity.
Assessment: It is time for this private/small business customer to pull up roots and find a bank (perhaps TD/BankNorth?) domestically based who has these issues figured out so their people can feel supported (business customers through the weekend?) and we can feel valued.
Just my $0.02 (before Santander loses that).

Today, January 2, 2026, a regular business day, I tried to reach Santander customer service for almost two hours and no one answered. My issue is not urgent, but what if it were? What kind of bank operates this way, leaving customers without access to customer service during business hours? I have decided to close my account and no longer deal with this bank.

Santander Bank will not protect your money! I have had over 20 checks I wrote redeposited twice, and the bank paid them twice. They will not refund my money even though it's their fault. It is very easy for someone to commit fraud against Santander Bank. They don't do anything to protect their customers! When they admit and know they are wrong, they still don't refund the money!

Santander Bank sold my accounts in error after 30 years and they refuse to correct their mistake. After Santander has ignored numerous emails and telephone calls, I sent their corporate office the following email and they couldn't care less.
I am writing to formally express my strong objection to the recent notice I received stating that my Santander Bank checking and money market accounts will be transferred to Community Bank.
I have been a loyal Santander customer for approximately thirty (30) years. My account was opened in Staten Island, New York, where I was born and raised. About twelve years ago, I relocated to Allentown, Pennsylvania, and have continued to use Santander branches throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York without interruption, due to the fact that I travel throughout all three states for work on a daily basis. I have never considered closing my accounts precisely because of Santander’s accessibility and reliability.
To my surprise, I recently received a letter informing me that my accounts are being sold to Community Bank. This is deeply concerning, as my accounts were not opened in a branch affected by this transition. When I contacted customer service, the representative confirmed that this appeared to be an error, since my accounts originated in Staten Island, New York. Yet, despite this acknowledgment, I was not given any option to remain with Santander Bank. All I was told were untruths (e.g., a Tier 2 rep acknowledged the error, stated that she was going to escalate the call and get back to me). The CSC Tier 2 Customer Service Rep named Nancy K. has ignored three of my emails. Today a Customer Service Rep further misled me stating that "I as the customer could not take this issue any higher." I educated the Rep by reminding her that she has a supervisor and therefore, that she needed to escalate my call, which she had not done.
This situation is not only inconvenient but creates a significant hardship. My debit card is directly linked to my 95-year-old grandmother’s Santander account, which allows me to transfer funds on her behalf for essential expenses such as food and bills. If my account is moved, it will become impossible for me to manage these transactions without traveling two and a half hours each way to her local branch in New Jersey. This is completely unreasonable and unacceptable.
I have been informed that my accounts will be “disabled” by November 7th if I do not transition to Community Bank. Let me be absolutely clear:
I do not authorize Santander Bank to close or transfer my accounts. I expect my accounts to remain active and intact under Santander Bank, without interruption or change.
I am requesting:
Immediate written confirmation that my account will remain with Santander Bank. A detailed explanation of why my account, opened in Staten Island, NY, was included in this transfer without my authorization. Prompt corrective action to ensure my banking relationship with Santander continues without disruption.
After thirty years of trust and loyalty, this situation is both disappointing and unacceptable. I expect a timely written response and resolution to this matter prior to the deadline of November 7th when my debit card will be deactivated.
Should I not receive any timely response from Santander Bank, I will consult my attorney.
Santander deserves to go under.

This company really is the pits. If you get locked out of your online access in your business account after 8 pm, you are out of luck until the next day. They make you enter your account number and PIN first, then tell you to call back. Pathetic customer service... I need access to my account 24/7, not when they feel it's acceptable.

I opened up a High Yield Savings Account with Openbank because they partnered with Verizon, my cell company, and for the amount I opened the account up for, I would receive $15 a month off my cell phone bill. I transferred the money and went through the process of confirming the two small (less than a dollar) deposits from Openbank. Once my financial account was confirmed, I transferred the initial large sum into the HYSA. It was withdrawn from my bank account on the 18th. It then took Openbank two full business days to process it on their side. At this point, they put my account on hold, said it is under review, and they would call me to clear this up. The customer service representative, who is not in the United States, could not help and said it would have to be somebody from a different department to call me, but did offer for a supervisor to call me. We will see. All of this is an absolute hassle to ensure they pay the least amount of interest possible by holding your money for "processing" for days on end. I will be removing my money promptly tomorrow and moving it back to Ally Savings. Everything with them is within 24 business hours. Never failed, not one time. Getting 0.8% lower on APR is worth it instead of dealing with the hassle that is Openbank.

I have never been treated the way I have by this bank. I became unemployed recently and relayed it to the bank. They were adamantly rude and accused me of not paying for several months when it was actually close to 2 months. I even made a partial payment last month to show I was putting in effort to pay my car note. They repossessed my car and would not let me pay the past due balance. I lost my car. Thank goodness I was able to purchase another car today. Do not finance through this bank. The interest rates are also very high. It's not worth it!

Santander keeps closing branches, one in Wyomissing, PA, and one in Oley, PA, just to name two. Now they have stopped providing a Medallion Guarantee. I don't consider this a full-service bank, at least not anymore. I'm looking to change banks.

I've never been so irritated with an establishment as I am with this one. I got a car loan in May, and every payment since, in June and July, there has always been some issue. I told them to take the car payment from my savings account, but lo and behold, they tried my checking account three times and it was declined each time, despite my instructions to use the savings account. Now they're telling me it's paid when I know full well I can see the money still in my savings account. Now the payment is late, and I don't care. Never bank here; they're not organized and are full of nonsense.

If you want to pay off the remaining balance of your loan, you must call, and they will charge $20. After you make your payment (which can only be in $3,000 increments, and my balance was over $12,000, so I had to make five payments—whoever heard of such?), days later, my balance still remains, with interest being accumulated ($3.70 per day). Then, I have to call back and wreak havoc, asking why this is happening. And when I ask for proof that my loan has been paid off, I am told that I have to call and request a letter. Really? This is 2025; why would I have to request a letter proving my loan is paid off instead of receiving an automatic email? Also, the language barrier with the customer service representatives is so bad; they don't understand you and vice versa. You have to repeat yourself numerous times. This bank will try to keep you stuck in a loan so that they can continue to make money off you. I have had several personal loans, mortgages, car loans, credit cards, etc., and I have never dealt with a bank like Santander. And I will never do business with these people ever again in life.

I was the treasurer of our small homeowners association. We had a no-fee checking account with Santander, which was used only occasionally. Unknown to me or the association, Santander began charging a $25/month fee until they depleted the account. I met with two representatives to complain and resolve the matter. They both said they would look into it and get back to me. I never heard from them again. It is unlikely that the folks in the homeowners association will use their services again.
Santander began applying the same charges to my personal checking account, which was also opened as a no-fee account. I caught the issue and complained. They refunded the two months' worth of fees, and I closed the account. Beware of these bait-and-switch tactics with this bank.
