Although the people at SchoolsFirst are very professional and courteous, the systems the credit union has in place to protect member identity are nothing short of irresponsible. I am a member, but my wife is not. SchoolsFirst allowed someone to go online and open a bank account in my wife's name with only her name, address, and SSN. They had the birthday, email, phone number, mother's maiden name, place of employment, and salary completely wrong. The perpetrator did not submit a driver's license for ID—just a fake passport number with no picture. The bank representative admitted they did not do anything to check if the passport was valid. (My wife does not have a valid passport.) Within a week, they had allowed this person to take $35,000 in loans on my wife's credit, still with no photo ID, no phone call to verify employment, no IRS tax check to see if her employment was valid. On the application, it listed her salary as a high school teacher at over $200,000! On the phone, the bank representative insisted to us repeatedly that all the information given to open the account and loans met their very strict standards for establishing identity. I simply cannot believe a financial institution could be so careless. From my research, it seems to me that they actually violated federal law in multiple ways. Again, the people we spoke with have been very courteous and have helped get this off my wife's credit report. But, the bank has not admitted any responsibility for their abject failure to exercise due diligence and has done nothing to compensate my wife for the many hours of trouble and stress this has caused.

Absolutely terrible. I had a car loan through them that I paid on for five years without issue. At the very end of the loan I traded in the vehicle and went through a different agency for the new car loan. Schools First Federal Credit Union continued to call, email and otherwise contact me for payment despite me providing information that the car was sold. They would not give any guidance on how I could avoid them reporting a late payment; the representative just kept saying, "Yes, correct, you are responsible for the full balance still." I'm really disappointed with their services and wish I had not been such a loyal customer for them for those five years.

I've been with the bank since 2004. About a year or two ago, I was pleased when they finally opened a branch in Orange County. Since going to the one in Orange, I have had problems mainly with two employees, both of whom no longer work for SchoolsFirst. The biggest problem I have is with the loan department; five times now they have gone under and forged my signature, continually changing my contracts. They also opened a loan for family members there, and every time I walk into the Orange branch, I am asked by a manager about it, and I say no, I did not authorize it. They have to do research and they call the loan department to question them; they always say, "Oh sorry, it was a mistake on our end," and quickly remove it. I have had people sending me money so I can buy gas. Once it is in my account, the loan department takes it right out without my permission. Today, 6-17-2024, they took the $60 my sister sent me to help pay for gas. All day yesterday I had to drive on an empty tank, and now I have nothing. I have to go to the bank, hopefully, I can make it, and confront them again. I am so done with them changing my account, and I will be involving the police and lawyers.
In the past and not too long ago, I have received emails from the loan department saying, "Thank you, Casandra, for your generous donation to our charity." They steal money from me and give it away. That is stealing, and so against the law.

SchoolsFirst Credit Union is an amazing bank; let me say they treat you like family. I'm so impressed with their service and how they handle loans. They make everything easy for you, but most importantly, they really take care of their customers. They go above and beyond to help you get approved. Their employees are always so courteous, professional, and very helpful. I would not go anywhere else. Mary Bueno

Obed was super helpful! He helped out my family and I, and he had excellent knowledge on all the questions we had about Roth-IRAs, savings and such. Had to leave a review so he could get the recognition he deserves.

Easy to apply. Nice employees. And wow, much much better rates than anyone else out there. I was paying twice as much APR on my previous car with Ally Financial.
