When I requested a more definitive time frame, I was told they could not find my money. They made it seem as though they could not locate me in the last statement. I am beginning to regret ever opening an account with SouthState Bank.
The issue began when I contacted South State Bank to resolve a serious matter: I never received the check I was supposed to receive after my account was closed. This is a financial concern that deserves urgency and professionalism, yet my interaction with Shirley was the opposite. From the beginning, she displayed an unhelpful and dismissive attitude, repeatedly cutting me off when I tried to explain my situation.
Instead of listening carefully and working toward a solution, Shirley argued with me throughout the conversation. Her tone was condescending and sarcastic, making an already stressful situation even more upsetting. At no point did she take any responsibility for assisting me or make an effort to escalate the issue to someone who could help. Instead, it felt like she was more focused on "winning" the argument than on resolving the problem.
As a customer, I expect to be treated with respect and dignity, particularly when dealing with something as sensitive as a financial matter. Shirley’s behavior demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, empathy, and problem-solving skills. Not only did she fail to help me, but her rude demeanor left me feeling belittled and disregarded.
This experience has shattered my confidence in South State Bank. If this is how they allow their representatives to treat customers, it’s clear there are serious gaps in their training and oversight. Handling financial concerns requires patience, courtesy, and a commitment to resolution — none of which I encountered during this ordeal.
I strongly urge South State Bank to take immediate action to improve their customer service, starting with better training and accountability for their employees. No customer should have to endure the level of disrespect and poor service I experienced.
Based on this interaction, I cannot in good conscience recommend South State Bank to anyone. I will be closing any remaining ties I have with this bank and encouraging others to look elsewhere for a financial institution that values its customers.
This time, I caught a $196 charge before it was paid while it was still pending. I caught this due to the bank notifying me by email of this charge. I immediately told them I did not make that purchase. Then, on their website, I spoke to "Tina," who informed me that the charges would have to be processed before I could call the bank and report the fraudulent charges. She asked if I wanted to cancel my debit card and have them issue another. I canceled my debit card but told her not to issue another one. It is obviously not safe to even use their card at their ATMs.
What upset me the most is having to wait for these charges to be processed to report them as fraudulent. I will now have to make a trip to the bank. I am not a happy customer!
