You can join the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union if you are 13+ years old, a resident of Hawaii and an:
- Active or retired employee of the State of Hawaii, the City and County of Honolulu, Maui County, or Hawaii State FCU
- Employee or member of a Select Employee Group, which includes companies, associations and non-profit groups located in Hawaii and enrolled with Hawaii State FCU
- Immediate family member or household member of an eligible employee
You are also eligible if your spouse passed away while eligible for membership.
How to Join Hawaii State Federal Credit Union
- Verify that you’re eligible for membership by ensuring that you belong to one of the groups identified in the list above.
- Visit Hawaii State FCU’s website and enter your ZIP code to initiate an application for membership. You will need your Social Security number or Individual Tax Identification number, your government-issued photo ID, and at least $20.
- New members start with a Regular Share savings account. The minimum initial deposit to open a Regular Share savings account is $20, and you can fund your new account with a debit card or a transfer from a U.S.-based bank account.
- Once you have been approved for membership, you may open an additional checking or savings account or apply for a loan.
If you’re interested in joining a credit union but aren’t eligible for membership in Hawaii State FCU, use WalletHub’s Credit Union Search Tool to find one you are eligible to join based on your residency, employer, or military history. Plus, many credit unions only require local residency to join, so consider searching for credit unions by location.
