To get a Bank of America late fee waived, call BofA customer service at 1-800-732-9194 and ask them to waive the fee for the late credit card payment. While Bank of America will sometimes waive the fee without any hassle if it’s a first offense, repeat offenders may have a tougher time getting BofA to drop the charge.
When you speak with a Bank of America customer service representative, make your case by detailing the reason you need the fee waived, and be sure to reference your past record of timely payments. Of course, those who have missed payments in the past will have a much weaker case than those with a perfect payment history.
If the customer service rep won’t waive the late payment fee, ask to speak with a manager. Bank of America managers generally have more autonomy, and they may be more likely to waive the fee to keep you as a customer. You can’t request Bank of America to waive the fee over chat or online, so if calling doesn’t work then you’ll probably need to pay the fee. To avoid missing due dates in the future, consider setting up automatic payments on your account.

I called about two weeks ago spoke with a rep and a manager named Alex these two individuals declined to waive my fee even if I had never been late they could not offer a valid explanation which was very infuriating. I called today and spoke with another rep named John hoping to get a yes this time he stated that bankofAmerica changed their one time courtesy waive for a late fee on CC last year fall of 2020. It seems consistent with the other comments I see here.
Had the exact same experience as @bcolefrn below. Just called to try to have a 1st late fee removed. Rep "ran in through the system" as @calvin_the_gr8 mentioned, and it was declined. Asked for a manager. Manager said he would try to remove it and he couldn't either, citing that it was charged because it was paid late. Well, duh. I explained that most credit card companies will waive a first time offense or one every twelve months or such as a courtesy, and he said he was sorry, they did not have that such policy. Very frustrating.
Cameron, Waiving a late payment fee is NOT as simple as picking up the phone. Thats a lie. The bank allows reps a limited number of waivers and it is not a set number like a carton of eggs. The reps dont know how many are left. when we put in the request, we get a yes or no. This is due to regulation Z that states all customers must be treated fairly which means that since good paying customers dont deserve a late fee (obviously) it is not fair to give back all the late fees back to those customers who choose not to pay their bill on time and of course also want their credit file adjusted to a higher score for convenience as if they didnt make a late payment. Speaking to a manager is not an automatic guarantee to remove the fee as they too fall under the same laws. And giving back money is not what they get paid to do btw. We (reps) can see your past statements when you try to lie that this is the first and only time ever as well. Nice try. Getting nasty and rude when offerred to set up autopayments to help the customer avoid future late fees doesnt help.
