Yes, cardholders can transfer points from Chase Sapphire to Southwest Rapid Rewards at a 1:1 ratio, in 1,000-point increments. Southwest is among the 11 airline loyalty programs partnered with Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card.
You can also book Southwest flights using Ultimate Rewards points without transferring them to the Southwest loyalty program first, but you’ll have to do so over the phone. Southwest typically only allows booking directly through their own site, so the only way to book using Chase points is to call (866) 951-6592 and have a Chase representative do it on your behalf.
Here’s how much rewards points are worth:
Southwest Rapid Rewards points are worth an average of 1.6 cents each. This is very comparable to the value of Chase Sapphire Reserve points, at 1.5 cents each toward travel. And the value is even better than that of Chase Sapphire Preferred points, worth 1.25 cents each toward travel.
Other Chase Sapphire Perks that Work with Southwest
There are also a few other Chase Sapphire benefits and perks that work with Southwest, but aren’t exclusive to that airline.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve: Cardholders get a total of 10 points per $1 spent on hotels and car rentals booked through Chase, a total of 10 points per $1 spent on prepaid restaurant reservations or takeout orders made through Chase, a total of 5 points per $1 spent on flights purchased through Chase, 3 points per $1 spent on all other travel and dining purchases, and 1 point per $1 on all other purchases. Southwest airfare is eligible for reimbursement through Chase Sapphire Reserve’s annual $300 travel credit, too.
- Chase Sapphire Preferred: You earn 5 points per $1 spent on travel purchased through Chase, 2 points per $1 on all other travel purchases, 3 points per $1 on dining and online grocery purchases, 3 points per $1 on select streaming services, and 1 point per $1 on all other purchases.
Nevertheless, if you’re a frequent Southwest flyer, you may want to consider one of Chase’s credit cards that are co-branded with the airline. They tend to offer perks specific to Southwest, such as free checked bags, upgraded boarding status, or discounts on in-flight services, along with yearly points bonuses.
