The Citi® Secured Mastercard® is the easiest Citi credit card to get as it’s the only Citi card that will accept applicants with limited credit (less than 3 years of credit history). The Citi Secured card requires a $200 refundable security deposit, but it has a $0 annual fee.
There are a few Citi cards available for people with fair credit, namely some Citi store cards. Just note that store credit card purchases are limited to the affiliated merchant or their website.
Most of Citi’s other credit cards generally require good credit or better for good odds of approval. You can check your credit score for free, right here on WalletHub.
Other Key Things to Remember
- The easiest Citi cards to get come with limitations. They offer low minimum credit limits, high interest rates, and few rewards or benefits.
- Beware of deferred interest promotions on store cards. Deferred interest means that if your balance isn’t paid in full by the end of the promotional period, Citibank will charge interest on the original purchase amount from the date of purchase, as if the promotional period never existed.
- Your Citi Secured security deposit is refundable. If you have the money to put down the deposit now, you’ll get your money back when you close your card with no remaining balance, unlike the annual fees that often come on other cards.
It may also be beneficial to look outside of Citibank to some of the easiest cards to get from other issuers. Aside from lenient approval requirements, some of these cards offer rewards and have no annual fees. They also report to the three major credit bureaus, so if you use them responsibly, you'll be able to build or rebuild your credit.
You’ll then have future access to some of the best Citi credit cards, or other excellent options from different issuers.
