The Platinum Card® is a luxury card with a lot of premium benefits for big spenders, including airport lounge access, gold status at major hotels, and hundreds of dollars in statement credits each year. The Platinum Card® also comes with a luxury price tag of $895 per year.
That’s a lot of money to spend on a card, but it can be well worth it for the luxurious benefits you get in return. Just bear in mind that this card is only available to those with at least good credit.
Reasons Why the Platinum Card® Is a Luxury Card
- Initial bonus: You may be eligible for as high as 175,000 points for spending $8,000 on eligible purchases within the first 6 months (welcome offers vary and you may not be eligible for an offer; apply and, if approved, find out your offer amount and accept the card with your offer, spend $8,000 in 6 months, and receive the points)
- Ongoing rewards: 5 points per $1 spent on flights booked with airlines or with American Express Travel® (up to $500,000 spent per year), 5 points per $1 spent on prepaid hotels booked with American Express Travel®, and 1 point per $1 spent on all other eligible purchases
- Credit recommended: At least good credit
- Annual fee: $895
- The Global Lounge Collection®: Complimentary access to 1,550+ airport lounge locations worldwide (terms and limitations apply, depending on the lounge)
- Airline fee credit: Up to $200 per year for one qualifying airline you select, when enrolled
- Uber Cash: Up to $200 per year ($15 in Uber Cash each month, plus a bonus $20 in December) after adding the card to the Uber account and selecting it for your transaction.
- Luxury hotel credits: $600 per year on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection bookings through Amex Travel (up to $300 semi-annually, with a minimum two-night stay for The Hotel Collection)
- Walmart+ credit: Up to $12.95 plus taxes per month, when you use your card to pay for a monthly Walmart+ membership
- Equinox credit: Up to $300 per year for an Equinox+ digital fitness app membership or eligible Equinox club membership (enrollment required)
- CLEAR credit: Up to $209 per year for CLEAR® Plus membership (gets you faster airport/stadium security screening)
- Hotel “Gold” status: Complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status and Marriott Bonvoy® Gold Elite status (enrollment required)
- Made of metal: This card is sturdier and looks fancier than a traditional plastic card
- Supplemental insurance: Various types of travel insurance, plus purchase protection* and extended warranties* on items bought with this card
