You can set up a Mastercard travel notification through your credit card issuer’s website, mobile app, or by calling the number on the back of your card. Mastercard travel notifications help prevent cards from getting declined when cardholders make purchases in places they don’t normally visit. But keep in mind that travel notifications do not involve Mastercard directly. They are instead arranged with the banks and credit unions that issue cards on the Mastercard network.
In general, it’s a good idea to set up travel notifications before leaving the country. You might even want to do it before travelling to another state. It’s often not required, though. With Capital One, for example, travel notifications are unnecessary due to their fraud detection practices. Other issuers (like Citibank) encourage travel notifications.
