Visa cardholders can set travel notifications through their credit card issuer’s website or mobile app, or by calling the number on the back of their card. Visa travel notifications help prevent cards from getting declined when cardholders make purchases in places they don’t normally visit. To be clear, however, travel notifications do not involve Visa directly and are instead arranged with the banks and credit unions that issue Visa cards.
In general, it’s a good idea to set up travel notifications before leaving the country, and you might even want to do it before travelling to another state. It’s often not required, though. With Capital One, for example, travel notifications are unnecessary due to their fraud detection practices. Other issuers like U.S. Bank and Citibank, encourage travel notifications.
