No, taking a defensive driving course cannot remove points from your driving record in Illinois. However, taking a defensive driving course may prevent points from going on your Illinois driving record to begin with.
When you receive a ticket in Illinois, you may be able to choose to either go to court or plead guilty, pay the fine and attend traffic school to avoid having the violation go on your driving record. Illinois limits the number of times you can select the traffic school option in a 12-month period, however. If you are ineligible to attend traffic school, the conviction will be recorded on your driving record.
Once a violation is placed on your driving record in Illinois, it will typically stay there for five years, though points from more serious violations may stay longer.

@camper0414: You can choose to fight the ticket in court or plead guilty, pay the fine, and attend traffic school to prevent a conviction from being added to your driving record. That way, you’ll avoid any points. If you plead guilty and do not attend traffic school, the conviction will be recorded on your Michigan driving record, and you will be assigned points based on the traffic violation. The points will be assigned based on Michigan’s point system, even though you got the ticket in Illinois. Hope this helps!
We just had an experience with the state police in Illinois. We believe he got the wrong car in a group because we had our cruise set at 71 and were being passed. We told him that and he said 1) we could go to court or 2) we could pay the ticket and take a class for no points because we had never been pulled over. The two versions your and his are not even close. We are from Michigan what is the correct answer
