Yes, full coverage is generally better than comprehensive insurance because it includes comprehensive coverage, along with collision coverage, liability insurance, and any other state-mandated coverage. Comprehensive alone only protects against non-collision events like theft, vandalism, fire or weather damage. Full coverage, on the other hand, also pays for damage from accidents (collision coverage) and covers injuries or property damage you cause to others (liability coverage).
Full coverage is usually recommended for leased or financed cars. It also makes sense if you wouldn’t be able to afford replacing your car out of pocket after an accident, or if the cost of full coverage is relatively low compared to your vehicle’s value.
That said, full coverage is more expensive than comprehensive coverage alone because it covers more situations. If your car is older and not worth much, you rarely drive, or you could comfortably replace the vehicle yourself, paying for full coverage may not be cost-effective. In those cases, carrying only liability (and possibly comprehensive) insurance might be a good way to lower your premium while still maintaining essential coverage.
