You should contact the FTC immediately. I worked for a debt consolidation firm that was very reputable and listed with the BBB and Dun and Bradstreet. The owner died unexpectedly and there was no contingency in place to deal with the creditors so unfortunately hundreds of clients that were trying to do the right thing and pay their debts ended up being in worse shape than if they had not even tried to pay a bill. From personal experience, if you file a valid complaint with the FTC they will confirm, and once confirmed you will have access to documents to fax to the credit bureaus and it can all be disputed and wiped clean. It takes some time and effort and may seem overwhelming the first time but once you get familiar dealing with the credit bureaus and the FTC it all works out.
