Pros, Cons, & Details
Want more credit card options?WalletHub makes it easy to compare credit card across many companies.
The customer service had always been top-notch, but in the last 3-4 months, these guys have seen a decline with a series of regrettable oversights:
1. When you update your phone number, it can take you from 3 days to 30 days to be able to get two-factor authentication (2FA) so you can create virtual cards.
2. When you reach the limit and make a payment, the auto-pay doesn't update automatically, so you have to manually adjust the auto pay. However, the balance does not reflect the payments you've made. This functionality existed before, but was removed, I suspect, to cause people to overpay or miss a payment and incur steep interest fees—a whopping $3,400 in interest fees.
3. Their overseas staff seem to be poorly trained, which is frustrating for everyone involved.
4. There is no pre-spend limit. So, if you spend $200k a month and then one month, they suddenly cut your spending limit to $90k with no explanation—no one knows why.
We are in search of another company that can create virtual cards and offer 2% cash back, so we can transfer all three cards we have.
I have had capital one for over 3 years and still at 300 credit limit. The pay the card and more than minimum most of the time. But i had a charged off account for many years now amd keeps being thrown in my face. So i will pay this 300 card and close this account. I have ither companies that approved me for 700. So take this card and shove it!!

Capital One is a terrible credit card to have. I submitted a complaint to them regarding a scam company. They credited the amount of $103 back to my account. They later charged the $103 back to my account without any notification. I contacted them, and then they indicated that the merchant sent them compelling documentation regarding the transaction. I explained to them that the company was a rental car scammer, and that I had a picture that they allowed me to take of the computer screen for the refund because they did not provide a written receipt. Capital One sent me a secure email that would not allow me to upload the document, which was a picture, and then requested that I mail them the document or fax them the document and would not allow me to email the document that clearly indicated that I did not owe the company $103. They did not seem willing to work with me in sending them the one document electronically in some way; therefore, I closed my accounts. They did not seem willing to work with me or defend me against the scammers, and I suggest that you use other credit card companies that will be willing to work with you regarding unauthorized charges.

I love Kohl's, but their new credit card holders, Capital One, are very unprofessional and ask for very personal bank information. I made a payment on the 1st that wasn't due until the 15th, as I do every month because I'm retired with a fixed income. The minimum payment was $29, so I paid that amount until later when we were going to pay off the card.
I then received an email stating that my account had been suspended. The same message appeared on their app, instructing me to resolve the issue. There had been no report of fraud or questionable charges on my account. They referred me to the fraud department to verify my bank account, which I have used for payments since switching to Capital One from their in-house financing, all because I made a payment to the card.
Upon calling the bank, they told me that my suspension was due to too many payments, too large a payment, my authorized user making a purchase while the bank account wasn't in their name, and the need to ensure I had sufficient funds in the account to cover the $29 payment. There were more reasons given, but I am having a hard time recalling all these outrageous reasons.
They also asked me for a picture ID, my full SSN, and a complete unredacted bank statement from all the banks listed as a payment method. After being on the phone for over 5 hours with them on various occasions to resolve the issue, I finally spoke to the "manager." The individual informed me that I was "randomly selected to have their bank reconfirmed."
The manager did connect me with one bank that verified the account despite some issues, which have been dealt with. However, my other bank, questioning their behavior, wanted to speak with me before providing any confirmation. This led to Capital One resorting to asking for a full unredacted bank statement to confirm my ownership of the account.
I have never missed a payment, paid late, or reported anything fraudulent. It's unclear why the fraud department would need to reverify a payment account that has been used several times. As a result, I cannot use a card for this store that is associated with all my rewards points and where you earn Kohl's cash.
I'm very disenchanted with this whole process and cannot shop at Kohl's because their credit card company is so unscrupulous as to desire all my personal information that can be used to commit fraud, supposedly from the very department designed to protect clients from fraud. The payments have been posted from my accounts as well, showing by the virtue of payment, that they are indeed my accounts. For the fraud department to want to verify my account only makes it doubly suspicious.

Loyal customer for 3 years. I only made payments from my current bank account while I held this card. Their mobile app attempted to submit my last payment under an account I haven't had in nearly half a decade, and that payment was returned. Despite correcting the issue, Capital One permanently closed the account. When I asked what they were going to do to address the glitch in their app, they said that I must have done something wrong. I submitted payments on that app for 3 years and never missed one, and at the first sign of trouble, Capital One blamed me and did nothing to help. I will never do business with them again.

Terrible company. I had an account since I was 15, so for 10 years, and never missed a payment. Fell into some hardship and missed one payment, which accrued for 2-3 months, and because of it, they shut my account and said I'd have to reapply, even though I've been with them for a decade. Either way, I've been trying to resolve my debt for a month with issues until I finally had to pull out cash and go to the post office to get a money order. I had the payment plan to reconcile my debt with a one-time half payment, sent it by priority mail, and it arrived a day after the offer expired. Because of this, the deal is no longer available and I have to reconcile the full amount. Even if I can, I will never use Capital One again.

I have a Kohl's credit card. Ever since Capital One acquired Kohl's, I have been annoyed, irritated, and downright disappointed with the Customer Service. I have contacted the customer service team on three occasions, probably with 3-4 months between each occurrence, to request a new card. Each time, I have been informed that "my address is not updated." So, in essence, their customer service is consistently sending new cards to an address that was sold in 2022. To eliminate continued stress with your customer service, I will cancel this credit card and not do business in the future with Capital One.

Promise credit line increases that they never give !!!!! I have had my capital one credit card for 18 months never been late on my payments , always pay more than my minimum and I’ve been denied three times for a credit line increase. My credit score is 40 points higher than when I received my card. This is very disappointing as I’d rather have one card with a higher limit than five different cards still searching for that one good card.

Ad Disclosure:
Certain offers that appear on this site originate from paying advertisers. For full transparency, here is a list of our
current
advertisers.
Advertising impacts how and where offers appear on this site (including, for example, the order in
which they appear and their prevalence). At WalletHub, we try to list as many credit card offers as possible
and currently have more than 1,500 offers, but we do not list all available offers or financial service companies.
Advertising enables WalletHub to provide you proprietary tools, services, and content at no charge. Advertising does
not impact WalletHub's editorial content including our best credit card picks, reviews, ratings and opinions. Those
are completely independent and not provided, commissioned, or endorsed by any issuer, as our editors follow a strict
editorial policy.
WalletHub is not a financial advisor. Our goal is to provide you with top-notch
content, data, and tools. You are responsible for deciding what financial products and providers are best
for your needs.
Irrespective of whether an institution or professional is a paid
advertiser, the presence of information on WalletHub does not constitute a referral or endorsement of the
institution or professional by us or vice versa.
We work hard to show you up-to-date product terms, however, this information does
not originate from us and thus, we do not guarantee its accuracy.
Actual terms may vary. Before submitting an application, always verify all terms and conditions with the offering
institution. Please let us
know if you notice any differences.
