The
Disney Premier Credit Card is a good credit card for fans of Disney who want to use the card for streaming Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+, as well as buying groceries and gas, dining out, and visiting Disney properties. Bonus rewards in those categories and a
$300 make paying the card’s
$49 annual fee worthwhile. Cardholders also get a variety of additional benefits, including 10% to 15% off select Disney purchases.
You need at least
good credit to qualify for this card (
700+ credit score recommended). You also need to pay your bill in full every month this card’s regular APR is in effect. The APR is quite high, and it will eat away at your savings from the card’s benefits if you expose a balance to it.
What I Like About the Disney Premier Credit Card
$300 statement credit after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months
Cash rewards credit cards only offer an average of
$235 as an initial bonus right now, according to our latest
Credit Card Landscape Report. The Disney Premier Card’s bonus looks pretty good by comparison.
1 - 5% in Disney Rewards Dollars
You will earn
5% in Disney Rewards Dollars per $1 spent directly at DisneyPlus.com, Hulu.com or ESPNPlus.com., 2% in Disney Rewards Dollars per $1 spent at grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations and most U.S. Disney locations and 1% on all other card purchases. Considering 1% back is standard for a rewards card, Disney Premier’s bonus categories are pretty attractive.
Assorted Disney discounts
The
Disney Premier Credit Card gets you 10% off select merchandise and dining options at Disneyland® and Walt Disney World® Resorts. You can also get 10% discounts aboard Disney cruises, at Disney Store locations, and on DisneyStore.com. Plus, you can get 15% off the non-discounted price of guided tours, among other perks.
Travel and shopping protection
The
Disney Premier Credit Card gives you access to baggage delay insurance, purchase protection and extended warranty protection.
Baggage delay insurance can cover the cost of purchasing necessary items (like new clothes) if your luggage doesn’t make it to your destination on time.
Purchase protection covers eligible items that you buy against damage and theft. And
extended warranty protection can add to an existing manufacturer’s warranty on eligible purchases.
0% for 6 months
This certainly is better than the alternative: the card’s high regular APR. Unfortunately, it only applies if you purchase a vacation package or a real estate interest in a Disney Vacation Club® Resort.
What I Don’t Like About the Disney Premier Credit Card
$49 annual fee
The
Disney Premier Credit Card’s
$49 annual fee can be worth paying if you’re a big fan of Disney and you spend a lot in the card’s bonus rewards categories. But this annual fee is about double the market average, so you should make sure the card is a good fit before you apply.
Limited redemption options
You can redeem your Disney Rewards Dollars for Disney products and services, including resort stays and theme park tickets. You can also redeem for a statement credit to cover the cost of eligible airfare. But that’s about it.
17.99% - 26.99% (V) APR
The exact APR you’re assigned depends on your overall creditworthiness when you apply. Regardless, you’re likely to get a rate that’s higher than the market average for people with your credit score. You’re also bound to lose a lot of value if you carry a balance from month to month. After all, the card’s rewards rates pale in comparison to its interest rates.
Fortunately, you can avoid interest charges by paying your bill in full every month when the regular APR is in effect. You should definitely plan on doing that if you’re going to apply for this card.
