Editor's Overview:
- The Winner: WalletHub
- Only WalletHub gives you the ability to make a budget and track savings goals. NerdWallet and Credit Karma, Mint's replacement, lack these basics.
- All three apps offer a free plan, letting you do things like track your credit score, manage your finances, find out your net worth, and get personalized recommendations for financial products like credit cards.
- WalletHub and NerdWallet offer a premium plan with additional features. Mint / Credit Karma does not have a premium plan.
- WalletHub and Mint / Credit Karma have debt payoff plans to help users find the fastest, least expensive way out of debt. NerdWallet does not have this feature.
- WalletHub is the only app among the three that allows users to share their accounts with others. NerdWallet and Mint / Credit Karma do not offer this capability.
Note: Mint is no longer available. Intuit, Mint’s parent company, has steered former Mint users to sign up for an account on Credit Karma (another company owned by Intuit) as a replacement for Mint. That is why we will compare the features that are currently available on Credit Karma in place of Mint.
Credit Karma allows you to view your spending broken down by categories and compare how your current spending differs from the previous month. But it does not have the exact same budgeting features Mint once had, such as the ability to make a budget or create savings goals.

The three available apps let you sync your financial accounts, such as bank accounts and credit cards, so you can automatically track your expenses. However, WalletHub is the only one here that gives you the ability to actually make a budget right from your account, giving it the top spot in this category.
While Credit Karma and NerdWallet do not give users a single way to make a budget, WalletHub offers multiple methods. WalletHub users can choose between simple budgeting with their total income and expenses only or building a budget using the 50/30/20 rule, pay-yourself-first strategy, envelope budgeting, or micro-envelope budgeting. Users can also do zero-based budgeting by referencing the “Summary” section under their “Budget” tab.
WalletHub also lets you set and track savings goals and access financial reports that can give you insight into your spending. In addition, you can manage all your recurring bills in one place with WalletHub’s subscription manager feature.
NerdWallet also has a subscription manager, but you can’t track savings goals or get financial reports from NerdWallet. Credit Karma doesn’t offer any other budgeting features besides being able to track your expenses and break your monthly spending into categories.

WalletHub and Credit Karma also update your credit score daily, provide a credit-improvement plan, and give you access to a credit builder feature that allows you to boost your credit score by reporting on-time payments, unlike NerdWallet.
WalletHub has the edge here since it provides you with interactive alerts that allow you to address potential issues promptly and lets you view a timeline of important financial alerts. Neither Credit Karma nor NerdWallet offers interactive alerts or a financial timeline.
