27% of young adults (18-29) prefer budgeting apps, while 39% of middle-aged adults (30-44) favor spreadsheets, and 43% of older adults (45-59) stick to pen and paper.

About 81% of people age 59+ struggle with increasing costs, and more than 50% of people across all age groups say unexpected expenses throw off their budgeting efforts.

Most people cover budget shortfalls by taking money from savings, especially those who are 18-29 years old (68%) and 59+ (73%). Credit cards are most popular among people ages 30-44 (34%).
