I was a customer with Allstate for several years bundling policies (Home, Auto, & Umbrella). When I attempted to cancel the policy in writing (on the bill itself) and calling but without proof of cancellation (certified or in email) they continued charging me after the expiration date of the policy and referred the issue to a collection agency. Bottom line is you must get a confirmation of cancellation from the agency or risk future charges. The corporate org referred me to the agent and the agent referred me to corporate with neither providing any help other than reach out to the PA State Insurance Department. “STAY AWAY FROM ALLSTATE”

I have an old 2012 Honda Civic LX, which I only drive less than 5,000 miles a year for pleasure. I have had Allstate for many years. And I wonder why Allstate charged me with a $735 liablility-only premium per six months which is twice as expensive over the national average premium. I've completed Defensive Driver education course and two more discounts applied but doesn't seem to have much effect on the final premium amount. Also, for this little old mini car, the premium goes up every six months. Why is that?

Terrible customer care. We recently moved and, when checking rates, decided to switch from USAA to Allstate due to the lower rates. We wanted a nationally known company and thought Allstate was a good choice. We were wrong, terrible choice! My wife's car had a rear tire blow out and, since the car has no spare tire, we had to call a tow service. We contacted Allstate for their roadside assistance and they dispatched a service that apparently had no experience loading low-profile sedans. The car is a factory-built BMW M4 Competition Special (no aftermarket add-ons - 100% BMW). The tow service was totally careless and indifferent and damaged the exhaust system and right front wheel and tire. Even though we had video evidence that the tow service caused the damage, the driver said "it was already like that" which is a COMPLETE LIE! After multiple failed attempts to contact the tow company to file a claim (they would not answer the phone or return voicemails), we notified Allstate and were told they would cover the damage but we had to pay the $500 deductible.
We wrongfully assumed Allstate's roadside assistance providers were vetted by Allstate to ensure they were reputable, professional companies, but they do not do this. Rather than pay the claim in full and deal directly with their tow service for damage reimbursement, Allstate makes the customer pay out of pocket while they attempt to get the tow company to pay for damages. Since the tow company benefits from being a designated roadside service provider, they should be more responsive to Allstate's inquiries, calls, and emails. You would think Allstate would put its customers first and use their leverage to hold their service companies accountable, but they do not. They leave the customer holding a $500 bill while they "try" to get the tow company to respond. Absolutely the wrong way to build a reputation as a company focused on customer satisfaction because they simply don't care if we are happy or not. We were not in "good hands"; we were in the hands of a company that couldn't care less, that does not represent the interest of its customers, and does not stand by the services it provides. Even though it's nearly twice the cost, we will be going back to USAA where they do care and this nonsense won't happen. Do not trust Allstate.

My agent is Alexander Bemanian. I have been leaving messages and have spoken to several representatives who weren't unable to assist me regarding my auto policy. My auto policy continues to increase without explanation. I have left voicemail messages over the course of two weeks with no return call. I am frustrated with the level of service. Please, if you are searching for affordable automobile insurance with good customer service. I do not recommend Allstate the service is terrible.

Reaching out to the Auto Club and getting a human being is next to impossible. And a 76-year-old woman alone shouldn't have to wait that long just to reach a person; I never did reach anyone. I finally had to pay for a tow truck on my own. What good does it do to pay Allstate for roadside service if I have to pay someone else out of pocket? Useless.

Janel Ketelson-Davis, This place led me to believe I was saving money, when in fact, I was being overcharged for at least three years. Upon inquiring why my premiums kept increasing, I was suggested to look at other products to see what could be done. It took my calling to prompt an offer for a lower rate. Although they eventually found me something less expensive, the trust was already broken. I was astonished that a company, which boasted about saving customers money, had been overcharging me while feigning friendliness.
Now, they claim I owe them $62.80 and had the audacity to send it to collections. Considering their deceitful conduct, I think it would have been reasonable for them to write off the amount and move on. This incident truly reveals the mentality at this branch of the company. So, beware.

To Whom It May Concern,
This letter serves as a final demand for an immediate refund of $651.39, which Allstate unlawfully charged me for coverage from June 1, 2025, through September 10, 2025. Allstate's actions demonstrate clear bad faith, negligence, and violation of Rhode Island insurance law.
When I applied for coverage, I accurately disclosed that my property has 4 units, supported by county tax assessment records. Allstate wrongfully canceled my policy, claiming the property had more than 4 units. The policy was reinstated only after I provided proof. During reinstatement, Allstate unilaterally removed my paperless delivery enrollment, preventing me from receiving any notice of premium changes.
Subsequently, Allstate retroactively increased my premium by $2,345.01 based on an inflated square footage (3,120 sq. ft.) that I never authorized. The original 2,100 sq. ft. figure was never confirmed by me. I demand that Allstate review all recorded calls from the time of application to confirm this fact.
Under Rhode Island law (230-RICR-20-20-1.6 and 230-RICR-20-20-1.7), insurers must provide proper written notice of premium increases exceeding 10% at least 60 days before policy expiration. Allstate's actions — including removing my paperless delivery and mailing notices to a vacant, under-construction property — constitute willful non-compliance, making the retroactive charges invalid and unlawful.
I demand an immediate refund of $651.39 within 7 calendar days of receipt of this letter. If Allstate fails to comply:
- I will escalate this matter to the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation, Insurance Division. - I will pursue all legal remedies available, including claims for damages and attorney's fees resulting from Allstate's unlawful overcharge.
Allstate created this problem entirely through its own errors. I expect prompt and complete resolution without further delay.

This is the worst insurance a person can have. I have had renters insurance with Allstate, and it's a joke. My car was broken into, and some valuable items, along with a safe with money, were stolen from my car. I called the police, took a police report, and filed a claim. So, four days later, I finally spoke with an agent named Jason Powell, who was very unhelpful. I did everything he asked me to do, sent in all my documents, even though he informed me that I would not be getting anything near what my items were worth. Now, three days later, I get a call from Ellen Martin, who is basically trying to get me to jump through all kinds of hoops, pretty much treating me like I'm the criminal instead of the victim. Allstate renters insurance is the worst, and I strongly advise anybody not to waste their money because they are going to do everything in their power not to cover your valuables. They do not care about what you lost, and I know they don't care, but I will be canceling their service today.

Their slogan should be 'You're NOT in good hands.' They denied my medical claim for $54,000, stating it was pre-existing. I went to the hospital for chest pain, and they found nothing wrong after all their tests. Practically before I even got home, I already had a letter in the mail from Allstate stating, 'We think it was fraud; we think you lied on your application.' Later, it changed to 'Oh, it's pre-existing because you went to the hospital years ago claiming chest pain.' Well, guess what, they found nothing wrong then either, so what's pre-existing? I guess just using the words 'chest pain' is considered a pre-existing condition. Do NOT use Allstate for anything; they can't be trusted. I paid these people $1,200 a month, and they just simply deny the claim. Wow, really, just another example of unethical insurance companies.

I had trouble reinstating my insurance because the premiums were too high. I found cheaper insurance. However, when I canceled my previous insurance, there was a mistake made in the cancellation date. When I attempted to correct it, I got the runaround from my agent, who told me to call corporate. She couldn't fix the problem and told me to call corporate. The person there said he was addressing my problem and could help me out, but then transferred me to someone else where I had to start all over again and explain my problem. Then, he tells me he couldn't fix the problem either. I asked for a supervisor, and all they did was say, "You're going to have to call back later." All I seem to get from them is a runaround with no clear answers or help.

My policy was amazing. I had no deductible because of the disappearing deductible. I have been with them for four years, but what went wrong was that I chose to use a different car rental service. They said they would refund me immediately, and that was a month ago. I'm still waiting and can't get my refund. I'm very frustrated!

Bad experience all around. In 2022, my motorcycle policy did not auto renew because I did not have auto pay set up. I had left the country for 3 months. I have my car insured through Geico. When I logged into DMV to renew my registration, I learned that my license was suspended. Now, fast forward three years later, the motorcycle is sold, license plates returned to the DMV, and I have sent three written requests to cancel the policy on file and issue a refund for the overpayment. They keep closing the request as not reviewed. These are bad business practices. I believe they are ignoring the request deliberately so that they can keep the money. Do not insure through Allstate. Geico is much better; I have had my auto loan with them for over 12 years and never had any of these issues.

Bought a 2019 Ford F150 STX with a Roush Supercharger kit purchased for a little over $27,000.00. Two months after purchasing, the vehicle burst into flames. Now it was used from a dealer, so no warranty. My insurance, Allstate, only wants to give me a little over $21,000 for it. So in two months, the vehicle decreased that much? I pay my insurance every month. This is the second time I have filed a claim, each time not my fault, and both times they have let me down. I am the customer, and I pay for insurance coverage—not coverage only when they feel like providing it—so how does this benefit me to stick with this company? My local agent is amazing and is fighting this, but ultimately it is up to the higher powers. I hate to lose my local agent, but I refuse to continue to pay for a service that is not there for me when I need it. I just don't understand, and now I am going to be on the hook for the better part of $6,000 for a vehicle I no longer possess because it burned up. Feeling so defeated and angry.

I got a call from an agent to get a quote for me. They wanted $417 a month for car insurance, which I found exorbitant. When I declined, he asked what price range I was looking for. I said $100-$200, and he laughed, asking if I meant for full coverage. I confirmed, and he laughed again, wished me the best of luck, and then hung up. First of all, how mature is that? It's embarrassing to have employees behave in such an unprofessional manner. Furthermore, every single quote I've received for full coverage has been between $100-$200 monthly, so you might want to better train your employees and remind them to remain professional because their attitude suggests they think it's unreasonable for me to want a more affordable rate. Just so you know, I did manage to secure full coverage for $100-$200 a month at Progressive. Car insurance should certainly not cost $417 a month!

It usually takes about 30 days for an insurer to pay out a claim, but the time frame may vary depending on the circumstances. To ensure that your claim is handled as quickly as possible, be responsive and detailed when answering any questions your insurance company might have. If your claim is taking too long, you can contact your insurer directly or go to your state's insurance regulator for help.
