They just made a change this month, 05/2026, that appears to only allow for STATEMENT CREDIT and not actual cash back like it used to. Plus, you can only do this in $5.00 increments, unlike previously. And to make matters worse, I do not see the cash back balance being calculated as purchases clear. It went from my preferred card to the card I will be taking out of my wallet.
Trying to move money between Navy Fed accounts they treat you like a criminal. Almost as if they want to hold up your money for as long as possible so they are the only ones earning interest on it. Flagging transactions between accounts but no alert to tell you it has been flagged so the money just sits in limbo. No logs of prior calls to confirm transactions. You have to wait longer than if you transferred it to an entirely separate bank. Customer service is NO help, the supervisors are NO help.

Used as 1 of my GOTO default cards with Navy Fed @ $25k limit
I used to love this Bank until a month and a half ago. Someone use my bank info and commit a fraud. I file a claim with the fraud department provided documentation from the merchant stating my information was due to fraud. Navy Federal declined me twice and basically said, I was responsible even after they had documentation from Apple stating they deemed it as fraudulent, I have not looked at this Bank the same ever since I am out of $220 Navy Federal Just do not care whatever happened to your funds being secured in a bank.

Your issue comes because when you are able to document the fraud then it is the responsibility of the Merchant to reverse the charges ... .. places like Amazon will collect the payment back from the merchant and then send the money back to your bank ... Navy Fed declined you because that is the proper process ...
It is federally required for the Merchant to return it to you since they allowed someone to fraudulently use your account.
And Navy Federal will generally cover the loss if it is promptly reported.
I have set up Text Authentication where any online transactions will text me to verify the charge before the payment is removed

Navy Federal has made an auto refinance so difficult for my girlfriend. She applied to refinance and was out of town visiting family in PR. When she got back she went to the bank and picked up the check to send to Toyota Financial. Then she saw her due date is in 10 days. She called NFCU and the man said he would extend the date out one month. A few days later her due date on the loan never changed and when she called back she got nothing short of absolutely total rudeness and they said you signed the contract, and if you dont like it then you can withdraw the loan and go through the application process again just to have the due date one month from today.
I did my loan through PenFed. Much better service. I asked to have my first payment pushed out a week because my car was being delivered to me and they extended it an additional 4 weeks in less than a minute.
The choice is clear who im doing business with from now on, Yes to PenFed, heck no to NFCU.

Terrible - Customer service is subpar - everything moves at the pace of a snail - you call 5 different reps and get 5 different answers - processes are so outdated - Any major bank has NFCU beat by miles - I regret opening with NFCU and I am moving my business elsewhere

On March 31, 2026, I went to the West Gate Drive branch in Durham NC. I withdrew 1,300.00 dollars from my Direct Express Card. I was given the money. The same day I was contacted and told that I would need to come back into the branch because there was a mistake in my transaction. I went back the next day. When I got to the branch I spoke to Kim and Jeremy (branch manager). They told me that the mistake was due to NFCU’s mistake. The 1,300.00 was taken off of my Direct Express card and money given to me, but somehow the transaction was not showing. They said that the money would be put back on the Direct Express card and that I would have to come back once that was done and give them back the money on the card. In the meantime, my NFCU account is showing a negative balance of 1,195.00. I am supposed to go back to the branch once the money is put on the express card; this will be the third time to get this resolved. From my point of view, once the money was taken off of the express card and given to me that should have been the end of it. All of this is ridiculous. NCFU needs to train it’s people.

Navy Federal Credit Union is beyond pitiful; it is downright useless. Trying to buy a house in Arkansas where my wife and I are going to live. Currently, I am stationed in Alabama, doing the geo-bach thing. I have 1.5 million in my TSP, working GS for the navy, drawing a retirement check from the USN, drawing a healthy social security check from Uncle Sam, credit rating of 835, haven't missed a bill in 40 years, and have zero debt. What could go wrong? NFCU is treating me like a criminal. I had to justify where all my savings came from, repeatedly having to provide documentation on why I bought a truck in December and paid it off in February, and continuous verification of my income resources. Funny thing...all my money is with NFCU, all my previous loans were with NFCU. Now, three days before I am to close, they say they need to push it back a week. So now I have to leave my job early because they said they weren't sure what day exactly; I have airline tickets to Arkansas, going to be a week of wasted leave because I can't move into the house from our rental. They totally have no customer satisfaction. If I had known how stressful and miserable working with them is... what do they do with a person with no credit history? I certainly hope the rates drop right away so I can refinance and get away from them.

I have found NFCU to be extremely imprecise in their administrative back office. Despite several phone calls to get data corrected, which was correctly written on the completed co-joint owner form from the start, it still was not altered after two attempts. Additionally, I have found their attitude to be subpar at times. I'm aware of a bank that offers the same conditions, such as cost-free balance transfers. I simply ended up choosing between the two and went with NFCU. If I need to make this choice again, it will not be NFCU.

As a customer, it is extremely disappointing to experience prolonged delays when attempting to resolve matters that require legal review or clarification. These situations are often time-sensitive and directly impact financial decisions, yet the response times seem unreasonable and lack clear communication or updates.
Customers should not be left waiting for extended periods without transparency or acknowledgment. Efficient communication and timely responses are fundamental expectations when dealing with a financial institution that manages people's money, credit, and financial security.
I respectfully request that Navy Federal Credit Union review its internal processes within the legal department and implement improvements to ensure customers receive prompt updates and reasonable timelines for resolution. Clear communication and accountability would greatly improve customer confidence and overall service experience.
I would appreciate acknowledgment of this complaint and information regarding the steps being taken to address these delays.
