The American Airlines Aviator Red Card trip cancellation insurance reimburses you for certain nonrefundable travel expenses, up to $5,000 per trip, or $10,000 for a 12-month period, or the original cost of the common carrier ticket for the trip (whichever is lower), when you have to cancel a trip or cut it short due to illness, severe weather or other covered situations.
Any travel-related expenses are eligible for reimbursement. To be covered, the entire or part of the trip must be purchased with your American Airlines Aviator Red Card.
How American Airlines Aviator Red Card Trip Cancellation Insurance Works
- Covered situations: The American Airlines Aviator Red Card trip cancellation insurance covers the costs of cancelled travel due to illness, injury, severe weather and death, among other reasons.
- What is reimbursed: This benefit reimburses American Airlines Aviator Red Card cardholders for any travel-related expense.
- Who is covered: The American Airlines Aviator Red Card trip cancellation insurance covers expenses for you, your family members and your traveling companions.
- What is not covered: Your cancelled trip will not be covered if it is due to pre-existing medical conditions, for example. For full details on exclusions, read the benefits guide that came with your card.
- Eligibility: Cardholders must pay for the entire or part of the trip with the American Airlines Aviator Red Card to be eligible. Trips booked with rewards from your card are also eligible for coverage.
- Coverage amounts: Cardholders can get reimbursed up to $5,000 per trip, or $10,000 for a 12-month period, or the original cost of the common carrier ticket for the trip (whichever is lower).
- Making a claim: You can file a trip cancellation insurance claim with the benefits administrator online or by phone at (800) 627-8372. You must give notice within 60 days after cancelling your trip, or the claim may not be honored.
