There is a very specific list of certain stores and retailers like Belk, Dillard's, and Sears that count as department stores for the Blue Cash Preferred card. It's also worth noting that the card gives 1% cash back for purchases made at department stores.
The Blue Cash Preferred card also offers generous rewards in several spending categories. More specifically, cardholders get 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 spent per year), 6% back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions, 3% back at eligible U.S. gas stations and on transit, and 1% back on other eligible purchases, received as rewards dollars (which can be redeemed as a statement credit and at Amazon.com checkout).
Here's what counts as a department store for Blue Cash Preferred:
- Bealls
- Belk
- Bloomingdale's
- Bon Ton Stores
- Boscov's
- Century 21 Department Stores
- Dillard's
- J.C. Penney (JCP)
- Kohl's
- Lord & Taylor
- Macy's
- Neiman Marcus
- Nordstrom
- Saks Fifth Avenue
- Sears
- Stein Mart
Blue Cash Preferred might not offer bonus rewards at department stores currently, but there are other cards that do. For example, the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express gives 3% at department stores but only for purchases made online, not at physical locations.
If you are not loyal to Amex, you could also check out the U.S. Bank Cash+® Visa Signature® Card. This card offers 5% cash back on your first $2,000 spent in combined eligible purchases each quarter on two categories you choose, including department stores.
