Consider leaving the Credit One Bank account open as it's a great rebuilding credit card. The reason is that if you do close it, you will lose CREDIT AGE or LENGTH OF CREDIT HISTORY which is one of the main and critical factors that lenders check for to determine your eligibility for a higher credit limit or credit request approval. Mine was closed due to my negligence. But now, if I do apply for it, I will lose some credit score points that would negatively impact my credit report history. You should keep it!

Cancelling a card does not necessarily lower your average credit age. If your average credit age is 5 years and you are cancelling a card that you have only had for a year, it will increase your average credit age, the downside would be that it could increase your credit utilization.

Yes! I noticed I was being charged $8.25 a MONTH! Thats outrageous! More than my AMEX!

If you cancel so you still have to pay the annual fee even if the balance is zero?

The retention offer I received was jokingly bad. I closed the card as I no longer needed it for ratio management and told them the financial terms were the reason I was closing it. They offered a $200 credit line increase, a 5% 6 month rate reduction and a one month waiver of the annual fee. When I told the representative that I had a replacement card at much better terms, they suggested I keep it as an emergency card.
