The Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier Credit Card offers multiple types of travel insurance, which cover rental car damage or theft, serious injuries, lost luggage, and delayed baggage for trips paid for with the card. There is no additional cost for any of these perks, other than the card’s $149 annual fee.
Types of Southwest Premier Card Travel Insurance
- Rental car insurance. Covers damage caused by theft or a collision up to the actual cash value of most rental cars. You must pay for the entire car rental transaction with the Southwest Premier Card and decline the rental company’s collision damage waiver.
- Travel accident insurance. Provides up to $500,000 in reimbursement for death or dismemberment that occurs during travel on a common carrier (plane, train, bus, ship, etc.). You must pay for the trip with the Southwest Premier Card.
- Lost luggage reimbursement. Pays up to $3,000 per person, per trip for checked and carry-on bags each. The benefit applies to bags that get lost, damaged, or stolen while you are traveling on a common carrier. You must pay for the tickets with the Southwest Premier Card.
- Baggage delay insurance. Reimburses you for any essential items you have to purchase, up to $100 per day for up to three days, when your baggage reaches your destination more than six hours late. You must pay for the tickets with the Southwest Premier Card.
Each type of Southwest Premier Card travel insurance has its own rules for eligibility and filing claims, so make sure to read your benefits guide for the full details. You can also check out our editor’s review of the Southwest Premier Card for more details about the card.
