A high credit limit is $5,000 to $10,000 or more. You generally need good credit or better to get a credit card with a minimum limit this high, and most other credit cards will only guarantee a fraction of that spending power to start with. For example, the most creditworthy applicants can get a Visa Infinite card with a $10,000+ limit, while others might get just $500 from a traditional Visa.
One of the highest-limit credit cards is the Chase Sapphire Reserve® card. You’ll receive a credit limit of at least $10,000 upon approval, though some cardholders with excellent credit and high incomes have reportedly received limits several times the minimum.
Notable Credit Cards with High Credit Limits
If you’re looking for a new high-limit credit card, there are plenty of other excellent offers to consider as well. If you’d like a higher credit limit on your current card, requesting a credit limit increase is a simple and straightforward process.
A high credit limit can make it easier to use less of your credit limit from month to month, as using up most or all of your credit card’s limit is bad for your credit score. Higher limits can also enable you to efficiently make large purchases, in addition to providing a source of emergency funds.
