The cheapest fast cars to insure at 18 years old include the BMW X3 and the Dodge Charger. These cars provide the lowest insurance rates among the vehicles with 0-60 times under five seconds (for at least some trim levels) that were included in WalletHub's analysis of 26 of the most popular vehicles on the road.
Insurance rates for an 18-year-old driver average $2,325 per year for minimum coverage, but the type of car a driver has can play a major part in determining the insurance premium. Since fast cars are more likely to lead to accidents than slower vehicles, insurance companies consider these cars high-risk and charge a high insurance premium. However, there are some fast cars that are cheaper to insure than others.

An 18-year-old can reduce their insurance costs by comparing car insurance quotes from at least three different companies. They can also decide to join their parents’ insurance policy instead of getting their own insurance. Adding a teen to an insurance policy raises rates by approximately $1,400 a year, on average. An individual policy for a teen is likely to cost a lot more than that.
