Ways to Earn American Airlines Miles
Fly on American Airlines and Partner Airlines
You'll earn AAdvantage miles when flying with American or partner airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Iberia. The number of miles that you earn depends on the fare paid and your AAdvantage status level. For example, Gold members get 40% more miles and Executive Platinum members get 120% more miles.
Use Shopping and Dining Programs
You can earn miles through AAdvantage eShopping and AAdvantage Dining.
- With eShopping, log in to the portal, shop with participating retailers, and earn miles per dollar spent using any credit or debit card.
- With Dining, link a card to your AAdvantage Dining account and earn miles automatically when you pay at participating restaurants, with higher earning rates as you move up program tiers.
Book Hotel Stays and Car Rentals
You can earn AAdvantage miles through hotel and car rental partners. Stay with brands like Hyatt, Marriott, or IHG—or book through AAdvantage Hotels—to earn miles on your stays. You can also earn miles when renting from Avis, Budget, Hertz, Alamo, Dollar, or Thrifty by providing your AAdvantage number at booking.
Book Cruises and Vacation Packages
Earn AAdvantage miles when you book directly with AAdvantage Cruises. You can also earn rewards and get great rates by booking flights, hotels, cars, and more together through American Airlines Vacations.
Use SimplyMiles
You can earn AAdvantage miles by activating personalized offers on your linked Mastercard. Once an offer is activated, make a qualifying purchase with that card at the participating merchant, and your miles are automatically credited to your AAdvantage account.
American Airlines AAdvantage miles are generally worth about 1.52 cents each for flights and expire after 24 months of inactivity. For more details, check out WalletHub’s in-depth review of the American Airlines AAdvantage program.
