You need fair credit to get approved for the TJX credit card, which means a credit score of 620 or above. Your credit score won't be the only factor taken into account, however, so this is only a guideline.
With that being said, you're right to consider a store credit card in this instance because they typically have more lenient approval requirements than general-purpose credit cards. The Kohl's Store Card is another offer worth looking into,...

Yes, the TJX Store Card will do a hard pull. You will need a credit score of at least 640 to get it, which is on par with what most store cards require.
There is no way to pre-qualify for the TJX Store Card. A hard pull usually causes an applicant's credit score to drop by 5-10 points. Most people's scores bounce back within 3-6 months with responsible credit management, but it can take...
You might get a TJX Store Card pre-approval letter if you fit the issuer's criteria for offering you one. Unfortunately, there's no other way to check if you pre-qualify for this card.

I set up an autopayment and found that I didn't have enough money to cover the balance due on the due date. So I manually paid the balance due on the due date after adding money to my bank account immediately. Half a month later, they charged me $32 for a returned check. I don't understand why, because I paid the balance due on the due date. They received the money in full without any delay.

They close your account for no reason other than not making recent purchases, even during pandemic situations, with no advance notice. They will only reopen a new card with a hard inquiry into your credit, despite your being an excellent customer for years. I will never spend another penny at any of their stores again. Terrible policy. They do not value their good customers.

Watch out, interest rates are through the roof. A 34.99% rate is not worth the measly rewards. I ended up closing my account after they billed me $342 for interest. It's crazy they couldn't write that off. Seriously!

Be cautious with your rewards, they can be stolen and you will never be able to use them . This is the worst credit card I have ever had in my life. I had an account blocked due to a transaction they suspected was fraudulent, even though I confirmed that I was the one making it. My card was blocked for two weeks because they didn't have an easy way to validate it. I was very upset with this because I was going on a trip, and it was the card I had used for reservations. In addition, I used that card for my daily expenses to earn points. I had the card for five years and utilized my rewards. However, after I presented my concerns and frustration, they removed all the points accumulated from purchases in the store, totaling $360. If you have this card for the rewards, be aware that your rewards certificates can be withdrawn. I suspect it was an employee of the bank because the removal of my rewards occurred after I expressed my anger about my card being blocked. When I called to report what happened, they told me there was nothing they could do, though they were able to identify all the stores where my rewards certificates were used. Horrible experience. Never get this credit card for the rewards; they can be withdrawn without your knowledge, leaving you unable to use them.

As others have written, TJX's late payment fees are horrendous. If you pay by check, be sure to send the payment as soon as the statement is received. On a purchase of $26.79, I incurred a late fee of $26.79 plus a $2.00 minimum interest charge. The check was mailed more than a week before the due date but was applied to my account the day after the late fee was assessed. The fee would not be waived because I had one waived in the last 12 months.
I just had them cancel my TJX Rewards Platinum Mastercard. My FICO score is 830, so I'm not concerned with the impact on my credit utilization rate. Likewise, I'm not concerned with the meager reward points forfeited on the card.
Do yourself a favor. Use a different card to accumulate points and avoid this one.

I've had the TJX card for many years. I don't use my card often and never saw the email saying I had a balance due on 1/28/24. Today (02/06/24), I received my new statement which said I owed a late fee of $27, plus an additional tax of $1.50! My original bill/statement was only $39! When I called to ask if they could waive the fee, I explained I just lost my job and didn't see the statement they emailed. I asked if they could please waive the fee, and they said I had one waived almost a year ago and they wouldn't do it again. I still can't believe TJX would assess a $27 fee on a $39 bill and not agree to waive it when I've been an excellent customer over the years. Why would you assess such a ridiculous fee? Shame on TJX Card for not showing your loyal customers any compassion. I will not use my card going forward and will let everyone know how they treat their customers.

A $27 late fee was applied 1 day after it was due. I had just opened the account and completely forgot to pay it. No grace was offered for a 1st time offense. AND I have another TJX account in good standing, which I don't think I've ever been late and have always paid off the full balance.
I paid the balance and told her to cancel the card. Then, I was told that closing the account means forfeiting any rewards I may have. Since those are earned by how much I've spent And I just paid my balance in full, why should those be taken from me? Those should be mine to keep. I didn't have any rewards on my account but that's beside the point.

I opened this card at a time when I shopped more frequently at TJ Maxx and figured why not get the rewards. They however continually don't send statements and proceed to charge late fees and interest. I just signed up for e-statements to try to avoid this in the future. I've disputed a couple of times but it is exhausting and I don't always have time to argue their slimy practices. I'd cancel my card out of spite but that would also hurt me more than them. I have several other cards that I NEVER have issues with and pay off in full. Literally cannot possibly recommend as they'll charge you in fees whatever rewards you do get.

I had this card for years, and as long as they made interest off me, it was fine. Then I was finally able to pay off my balance, and they closed my card without telling me. I assume it’s because they’re not making interest off me any more. This has destroyed my credit utilization on my credit report. Slimy.
