The Discover it® Cash Back credit score requirement is 700+. That means applicants need at least good credit to be eligible for the card. This credit score requirement is in line with most other cards that Discover offers, as well as comparable cash back credit cards from other issuers. The higher an applicant’s credit score is above 700, the more likely they are to be approved for the Discover it Cash Back credit card. But your credit score is far from the only factor Discover will consider during the approval process.
In addition to a 700+ credit score, applicants for Discover it Cash Back will also need to have a steady income. Discover will also consider the applicant’s recent credit inquiries, the number of credit lines or loans they have open, their monthly housing payment and more. Plus, you won’t be approved if you already have two open Discover cards. That’s the maximum.
It may be possible to get a Discover it Cash Back card with a credit score below 700 if other factors, such as your income, balance out your profile, according to anecdotal reports. If you want to get a better idea of your odds of approval for a Discover it Cash Back card, you can use Discover’s online pre-approval tool. Fill in some personal information like your name, address, income and date of birth, and you’ll be shown a list of any Discover cards you have a high chance of qualifying for, along with links to apply. Pre-approval won’t hurt your credit score, but actually applying will cause a small drop.

I was just approved with no credit histories, so it’s probably reasonable to get it as a student with a decent checking account
