Yes, Aldi does take American Express credit cards, besides other payment methods. Aldi accepts cards on all four major networks in its U.S. locations. The grocery chain previously accepted only cash and debit cards, but this inclusion is part of ALDI's effort to provide more flexible payment options to its customers.
One of the best American Express cards to use at Aldi is the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express, because it offers 6% cash back on the first $6,000 spent in U.S. supermarket purchases per year (1% after). The combination of Aldi’s low prices and the Blue Cash Preferred card could save shoppers a ton of money.
Process for Using American Express
When using American Express cards at ALDI, customers are required to swipe their cards through the card scanner, similar to other credit card transactions. However, an employee must approve the transaction before completing the purchase, and customers should be aware that a small fee may apply for credit card transactions.
Please note that some Aldi locations outside of the U.S. do not take American Express, despite accepting other credit cards. Although Amex cards aren’t always as practical overseas as Visa and Mastercard, American Express does have a fairly large domestic network. As of 2019, 99% of U.S. merchants who accept credit cards accept American Express, so you don’t need to worry too much about your Amex card’s domestic acceptance.
