You have to be at least 18 years old to get a secured credit card. Anyone under 18 is not eligible to get their own credit card account, though they are allowed to sign on as an authorized user on someone else’s account.
The age requirement to get a credit card is the same for both secured and unsecured cards. In both cases, you will also need to demonstrate that you have enough income to afford monthly credit card payments. If you’re 18-20 years old, this must be independent income. Applicants who are 21 or older can use shared household income.
