An accident stays on your Progressive insurance record for 3 to 5 years. Progressive factors the accident into your insurance premium for the first 3 years. At that point, the accident no longer affects your premium, but it will still show up on your record and may affect your eligibility for certain discounts. After 5 years, the company no longer keeps a record of that accident.
Certain customers might also be eligible for one of Progressive's accident forgiveness benefits:
Small Accident Forgiveness
Your rates won't go up for your first small claim of $500 or less. In most states, you're eligible for this benefit as soon as your Progressive policy is active.
Large Accident Forgiveness
Progressive won't raise your rates after an accident if you've been a customer for at least 5 years and accident-free for at least 3 years.
Although your driving record and claims history heavily impact how much you pay for car insurance, providers use a wide variety of factors to set rates. If you have a less-than-perfect record, the best way to find the cheapest car insurance is to compare personalized quotes from at least a few different providers.
