To use AAA towing, request assistance by calling their 24/7 support line at 800-222-4357 or by submitting an online request through AAA's website or mobile app. You or someone else in the car must be an active AAA member to access towing services.
If you don't have a AAA membership, you'll need to sign up before scheduling roadside assistance. However, you don't need to be a member at the time of the incident—only before help can be dispatched.
How to Request AAA Towing
Keep your AAA card ready.
You will need to tell the AAA agent your benefits number. When you call AAA, they will ask you for your location and to describe any hazards the towing company may encounter.
Call the AAA support line or submit a request online.
AAA will ask for your location and any potential hazards the towing company may encounter. Provide as much detail as possible when you request assistance and note if your car is pulled over on a highway or requires winching.
Remain with or near your car.
Unless you are in a dangerous situation, you should remain with your vehicle.
Towing your vehicle.
AAA will tow your vehicle to a local repair shop, a AAA-approved repair facility, a gas station, or another location of your choice. You may be charged for distances in excess of the limit associated with your membership level.
The number of miles covered under a membership is determined by each individual club. If you have a basic AAA membership (the "Classic" level), you can typically get towed three or more miles for free, depending on where you live. Plus and Premier members usually receive 100 or more miles of free towing per service call. AAA members usually get up to four service calls per year.

@sirslynotme: Thank you for sharing your experience! Each individual AAA club determines the number of miles covered with the membership. The clubs will typically cover 100 miles per tow for Plus and Premier members, though some clubs may cover fewer miles. But even the Classic/Basic plan will indeed cover a tow back to the service provider’s repair shop. Good point.
Plus is only 50 mi. Premier is 100 mi. That’s Per request call, of which you get 4/year. And all membership levels get unlimited miles if towed back to tow truck’s originating facility.
