The Southwest credit card foreign transaction fee is either $0 or 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars, depending on the card. More specifically, the Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus Credit Card card's foreign transaction fee is 3% of each transaction in U.S. dollars. The other Southwest credit cards have no foreign fees.
A Southwest credit card with no foreign transaction fee is well-suited for international travel, but only to certain locations. While Southwest doesn't exactly operate globally, they do offer flights to Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. There are over 110 destinations total.
The Southwest credit cards give 2 points / $1 - 4 points / $1 spent on purchases made directly through Southwest Airlines. If you earn points on a Southwest credit card with a foreign transaction fee of $0, they won't be wiped out by a 3% charge.
Unfortunately, though, Southwest is one of the few major airlines that is not part of a big airline alliance. That means their points can't be transferred to partner airlines that could service other international destinations.
You can get the Southwest Plus Card referral bonus by visiting the dedicated referral page, entering your personal information and sharing the referral link with your friend. You will receive 20,000 bonus points for each approved friend, up to 100,000 bonus points per calendar year.
The Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Companion Pass is the benefit that allows you to choose one person to fly with you, free of airline charges (does not include taxes and fees from $5.60 one-way), every time you purchase or redeem points for a flight.
A Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus payment may post immediately, as long as the account is in good standing and you use a Chase checking or savings account to make the payment. However, the funds drawn from non-Chase accounts usually post in one to two business days.
You can check your balance by logging into your online account at: https://www.chase.com/credit-cards/rtbl/swa-accact-rtbl or by calling customer service at: 888-269-8690. Hope this helps!

Terrible customer service from Chase. They sold me this credit card with the promise of getting those two Early Bird boarding passes per year. I paid for them and when I received my statement there was no reimbursement. After being told to be patient (four months) the "supervisor" finally told me I was out of luck! Yes, he was terrible. I'm out $50 and will never use Chase credit cards again.

I've had this card for two years, and I will say that this is a decent card given the anniversary bonus of 3,000 pts, which AA and DL do not give out. They also run specials over the holidays to get you extra points for grocery shopping, etc. However, most of the time they do not give any extra points for grocery shopping, dining, travel (beyond travel on Southwest), etc. as other cards do, so I will often use a different card for dining out to get more points. If I were to do it again, I would get a RR Premier card instead. For only $30 extra, you get 3,000 extra points on your anniversary date, and there are no foreign transaction fees. I may request a product change on this one to get those benefits, but otherwise, my Southwest card is my go-to credit card.

I have tried for this card at least twice and denied. It was sent to me and when applied and denied caused my credit score to go down. I am Rapid Rewards member for years and travel once a month with Southwest. So right now this card is a Big Joke.

Terrible customer service despite a consistent history (never a late payment on my entire 20+ year credit history). Serviced by Chase, so don't expect any level of responsiveness for any issues. There are better options.

If the card is through chase I wouldn’t have it. I was going to get the premium one today, and then found out it’s issuer is the dreadful Chase. I just cancelled my two credit cards with Chase as they have become a terrible company to do business with. The staff remains handicapped by their policies, and lack of staff. Sapphire concierge services are gone too.

I got this credit card because I fly across the country multiple times a year in order to visit family. I always choose Southwest, because I like the open seating policy, the fact that bags fly free, and the staff is always very nice and friendly! They are often also the cheapest airline option. This card allows me to earn miles for the things I purchase, and then use those miles to reduce my traveling costs. This is very convenient for me. The annual fee is low and well worth it.

You charge an international transaction fee. I would take your card in a minute if this was not the case. Many others do not charge this fee.

This card has been excellent for saving up points for flying (my husband and I don't fly often). However, I do wish that this card was available through any other bank but Chase. Not a big fan of Chase Bank. Also, my card expired last May and I have not been able to get a new one through the mail, even though I've notified both Southwest and Chase. This has been frustrating.

I’ve been using the Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card for over five years now and I love the perks and benefits it provides. As I travel often for my job, I’ve been able to accumulate a number of free flights and hotel stays by using my card regularly to rack up the points. Because Southwest’s fares and prices are often much lower than many competitor airlines in my area, I get the most bang for my buck using my Southwest card. Highly recommended!

The Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit Card is a good option if you like to travel and live in a city that Southwest services. When you sign-up you receive the equivalent of 2 round-trip airfares, albeit after a few months. I signed up about 6 months ago and just now received the bonus. Yes, there's an annual fee of $69 or so, but that is offset somewhat by Southwest rewarding you with a $50 flight credit every year. If you like Southwest as an airline, I strongly recommend this credit card. It's one of the better airline rewards cards out there, and I've had a great experience with it.
