Chase Freedom Flex Rewards
Chase Freedom Flex is an excellent rewards card, offering a significant amount of cash back in a variety of spending categories. It gives 5% cash back on up to $1,500 spent per quarter in bonus categories (which change every quarter and require activation), 5% cash back on travel through Chase, 3% back at restaurants and drugstores, and 1% back on all other purchases.
On top of those ongoing rewards, you can also earn an initial bonus of $200 for spending $500 in the first 3 months.
Key Things to Know About Chase Freedom Flex Rewards
- Chase Ultimate Rewards: This card is advertised as a cash back card, but its rewards are actually Chase Ultimate Rewards points. You can redeem these points for cash back, travel, gift cards, a statement credit for previous purchases and more.
- Transfer to Travel Cards: If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Chase Sapphire Reserve®, you can transfer your points to those cards.
- Chase Transfer Partners: If you move your points to a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve account, you can then transfer those points at a 1:1 ratio to the loyalty programs of various airlines and hotels, such as Southwest, JetBlue, Hyatt and Marriott.
- No Expiration: There is no limit to the number of points you can earn. Your rewards also won’t expire as long as your account remains open and in good standing.
- Pay With Points: You can use your points to pay for Amazon.com orders or purchases made using PayPal. You can also redeem your points for Apple purchases through the Chase Ultimate Rewards redemption portal.
- Pay Yourself Back: Chase lets you redeem your points for a statement credit to pay off purchases made during the past 90 days.
- Referral Bonus: You can earn a referral bonus of $50 cash back (5,000 points) each time a person you refer to the card applies and gets approved. The maximum amount you can earn per year is $500 cash back (50,000 points).
Chase Freedom Flex Low Fees and APRs
$0 Annual Fee
Chase Freedom Flex has a $0 annual fee. That means you don’t have to worry about spending a certain amount to break even.
0% Intro APR
The card offers an introductory APR of 0% for 15 months on purchases and 0% for 15 months on balance transfers. Those are long intro periods for a card that also offers rewards.
Once the introductory APRs end, your balance will be subject to the card’s regular APR, which is 18.24% - 27.74% (V). The card also has a balance transfer fee of Either $5 or 3% of the amount of each transfer, whichever is greater in the first 60 days (5%, min $5 after).
Chase Freedom Flex Travel Benefits
Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance
When you book travel with your card and it’s cut short or canceled due to circumstances out of your control such as severe weather or sickness, this benefit can reimburse you up to $1,500 per traveler and $6,000 per trip. The reimbursement applies to pre-paid, non-refundable passenger fares.

Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
When you rent a car using your card, this benefit can reimburse you for collision damage or theft up to the actual cash value of most rental cars. In order to receive this coverage, you’ll need to charge the entire rental to your card and decline any insurance the rental car agency offers. In the U.S., this benefit’s coverage is secondary to your personal auto insurance.

DoorDash Benefit
Chase Freedom Flex gives you six complimentary months of DashPass membership with the DoorDash and Caviar apps.
