You can pre-qualify for credit cards with several major credit card companies, including American Express, Bank of America, Capital One, and Wells Fargo using the pre-qualification tool on their website. To check for a pre-qualified offer on an issuer’s website, you just enter a few pieces of personal info and press a button. You will then see any cards you’re pre-qualified for.
Keep in mind that if you get a pre-qualified offer, you’ll still have to apply for the card, and there’s no guarantee you’ll be approved. But your odds of approval are very high.
Popular Credit Cards You Can Pre-Qualify For
Pre-qualification is like being pre-approved, with the difference being how you receive an offer. A pre-qualified offer is given when you visit an issuer’s website or branch and provide a few pieces of personal information. But if you get an unsolicited offer directly from the issuer, either in the mail or through email, it’s a pre-approval.
Note that if you get a pre-approved or pre-qualified offer and decide to apply for the card, the issuer will perform a hard pull on your credit report, which will likely cause a temporary drop in your credit score.

I got prequalified by Discover and Capital 1 in the past. Don’t base everything on this though. Find the right card first, then prequalify to make sure you’re not wasting an application.

That’s for you to find out…checking doesn’t hurt your credit, so go pre-qual crazy and see what you get!

Check all the big guys’ pre-qual pages. Then pick the best deal.
Even if you don't pre-qualify, you might still get approved. It happened to me. Just don't go applying for 5 cards at once - space it out!

Oh man, pre-qualifying is such a game-changer! I just discovered that American Express is the absolute best for this - their system actually shows you multiple card options if you qualify. Got pre-approved for the Blue Cash Preferred with a 720 score, no hard pull!

From my experience, pre-qualify tools exist for:
- Amex (most accurate)
- Capital One
- Discover
- Citi
- Bank of America
Chase pre-qualify not working now (website says unavailable). But sometimes in bank branch they can check.

Amex: Will tease you with a Gold card, then give you a $1K limit.
Capital One: "Pre-qualified" = "Here’s a secured card, loser."
Discover: The only one that might throw something your way.
Chase: Pre-qual is currently "unavailable" (aka broken since 2012).

From personal experience: Amex, Capital One, and Discover are the trifecta for pre-qualifying. Amex is the most reliable - I got the Blue Cash Preferred pre-qualified with a 720 score. Capital One’s tool is great for fair credit. Avoid Chase unless you’re in-branch (they sometimes bypass pre-qual for Sapphire cards), and remember: pre-qualification just means you’re likely to get the card, not a lock.

Agree with others here. Start with Amex/Cap1. There’s no harm in trying all the big banks and credit unions though.

That’s what I do, and it works well. It may take a little longer, but I’m happy with the results. I also get card recs here.

I wish there was one place you could go to prequalify with all the banks.
