Why Citi Is Sending You a New Card
- Your Current One Expired: Credit cards typically have expiration dates, and Citi may be sending you a replacement card because your current one has expired and needs to be replaced.
- Your Card Got Upgraded: You could be getting a new Citi card as a result of an upgrade to your account. For example, other Citi cardholders reported being sent a new card as a result of their Citi Mastercard being upgraded to World or World Elite.
- Fraudulent Activity: If Citi detects suspicious or fraudulent activity on your account, they may proactively issue you a new card to prevent further unauthorized transactions.
- Accounting Error: It's possible that you're getting a new Citi card due to an administrative or accounting error.
Ultimately, the best way to learn why you’re getting a new card is to contact Citi directly. You can do that by calling (800) 950-5114 (or the number you see on the back of your card). A customer service representative should be able to provide you with specific information about why the new card was sent and address any questions or concerns you may have.
