What I Like About the OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card
1% cash back
Saving 1% on every purchase you make can add up to a lot, but it’s also nothing special. In fact, 1% back is about average for a credit card, and you don’t need great credit to get above-average rewards. For example, some secured credit cards have higher reward rates – at least in specific spending categories.
Available to people with bad credit or better
Most credit cards with rewards won’t accept people with “bad” credit scores of 300-639. The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card, to its credit, will give some people with damaged credit a second chance. There’s no official minimum credit score, but it’s also important to remember that approval is far from guaranteed. The better your credit is and the more income you have, the higher your chances of approval will be.
No security deposit needed
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card is an unsecured credit card for people with bad to fair credit. Unsecured means you don’t have to put any money down. This is in contrast to secured credit cards, which require a deposit, the amount of which becomes your credit limit.
Can help you build credit
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card reports to the three major credit bureaus on a monthly basis, so paying the bill on time every month should gradually lead to credit score improvement. Try to only spend a portion of your credit limit, too.
Perks for paying on time
In addition to helping your credit score, consistently paying your bill on time can unlock some extra benefits with the OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card. You could get a higher spending limit, for example, or earn an interest-rate reduction. To qualify, you need to pay on time for six straight months.
What I Don’t Like About the OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card
$0 - $89 annual fee
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card can be expensive to own. For comparison, the average annual fee among the more than 1,500 credit card offers that we track is just $25.22. This card can still save you money, though.
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card’s annual fee is worth paying if you charge at least $7,500 in purchases to the card in a year and you pay the bill in full every month. This allows your savings from cash back rewards to exceed the cost of the fee and prevents interest charges from getting in the way.
High APR
If you don’t pay your full statement balance each billing period, the unpaid balance and any new purchases that you make will accrue interest at an annual percentage rate of 35.99%. That is significantly higher than the average APR among credit card offers available right now, and even the average rate is very high.
To avoid interest charges with this card, you will have to pay the bill in full every month. If you carry a balance from month to month, you’ll need to pay in full for a couple of months in a row to stop the interest charges.
Undisclosed credit limit
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card hasn’t disclosed a specific minimum credit limit. You’ll find out what your credit limit is when you’re approved for an account. You might get a sense after simply being pre-approved, too.

Don't waste your time applying for this company's credit card; it's a joke! They continue to ask for your driver's license photo, bank statement/utility bill, and your social security number photo multiple times and never provide you with any credit card to use. It looks like they don't know what they are doing. I submitted my information once, which was a mistake.

If you made the mistake of getting this card, close the account and run. Customer service is terrible. They will not approve any purchase for more than a couple of dollars. So as an emergency card, it's useless. You will not be able to make a large purchase no matter how long you have had this card.

Not the best card! I have been offered credit limit increases as low as $50.00, which I thought was clearly a waste of time. If you are offered this card, please don't take this credit card issuer seriously. Just use the card once a month for a small charge and make the payment immediately after the statement posts. Do this until you are upgraded to the Brightway Plus Card, which will eliminate the annual fee. Otherwise, this card has no value, outside of assisting with building a positive credit history. I would have given this card 0 stars if possible.

I made a $100 payment to my account and they double charged me! Called them to let them know and they said they do not give refunds and that I must have double-clicked. I did not double-click! Stay away from this company! They did not credit my account.

This company is almost comically terrible. It truly deserves no stars. They are incapable of answering simple questions, transferring you in circles between departments and ultimately just plain wasting your time and mismanaging your money.

If I could give this negative stars, I would. Do not get this card, it is not worth your time, money, or energy. I was a fool for getting this card, and I closed it the next day because I could only make a few purchases before they decided to lock my card and refused to unlock it. I had to put back my groceries because the fraud department flagged the purchase as high risk. Even after confirming it was me making the purchase, I still couldn't use the card. I had to leave with no food or anything. I called them the next day, as they were closed the night we went to the store. After calling five times, I told them to cancel the card because I couldn't make any purchases. Nothing I did worked. It would just come back 'Not authorized.' I only managed to make about four purchases before it locked me out completely. Don't waste your time. Even if you do get this card and call them to unlock it, they'll tell you your account is fine but won't do anything about your credit card. Aside from 'you can go shop at another merchant,' but that won't work, so you're stuck with a worthless paperweight, if even that.

Great card for those who want to rebuild credit. So far so good. Started out with a $500 limit and it was increased to $1000. Can't wait to see what the next increase will be!

This credit card company is like a bully. They will charge you an annual fee even if you do not activate the card. They will charge you an annual fee even if you decline the offer. One Main engages in predatory lending. Please avoid this card.

I would give 0 stars if I could. It's a ridiculous card that won't let transactions be approved when you try to use it. I was told by a representative that the transaction was flagged as high risk for proprietary reasons and would not be approved. It was for my son's summer camp fees. Not worth the hassle or the negative impact on your credit. Trust me, do not bother! I activated the card today and closed it today. Utterly ridiculous!

I was approved for this credit card over a month ago but never received it. When I called, I learned that my apartment number was omitted from my address. After an hour on the phone with someone who had difficulty with English, they updated my address and instructed me to send an email to request a new card. I complied, and five days later, they replied, telling me to call for the request instead. Upon calling again, I encountered a person with similar language challenges and was advised to send an email to a different address for my request. Despite not having received or activated the card, I have been charged a $65 annual fee, which they insist must be paid by the 24th to avoid affecting my credit. If the card does not arrive by the end of the month, I will report this to the Better Business Bureau. It is unfair to pay for something I have not received, and the process to obtain the card has been frustrating.
