What I Like About the OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card
1% cash back
Saving 1% on every purchase you make can add up to a lot, but it’s also nothing special. In fact, 1% back is about average for a credit card, and you don’t need great credit to get above-average rewards. For example, some secured credit cards have higher reward rates – at least in specific spending categories.
Available to people with bad credit or better
Most credit cards with rewards won’t accept people with “bad” credit scores of 300-639. The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card, to its credit, will give some people with damaged credit a second chance. There’s no official minimum credit score, but it’s also important to remember that approval is far from guaranteed. The better your credit is and the more income you have, the higher your chances of approval will be.
No security deposit needed
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card is an unsecured credit card for people with bad to fair credit. Unsecured means you don’t have to put any money down. This is in contrast to secured credit cards, which require a deposit, the amount of which becomes your credit limit.
Can help you build credit
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card reports to the three major credit bureaus on a monthly basis, so paying the bill on time every month should gradually lead to credit score improvement. Try to only spend a portion of your credit limit, too.
Perks for paying on time
In addition to helping your credit score, consistently paying your bill on time can unlock some extra benefits with the OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card. You could get a higher spending limit, for example, or earn an interest-rate reduction. To qualify, you need to pay on time for six straight months.
What I Don’t Like About the OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card
$0 - $89 annual fee
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card can be expensive to own. For comparison, the average annual fee among the more than 1,500 credit card offers that we track is just $28.25. This card can still save you money, though.
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card’s annual fee is worth paying if you charge at least $7,500 in purchases to the card in a year and you pay the bill in full every month. This allows your savings from cash back rewards to exceed the cost of the fee and prevents interest charges from getting in the way.
High APR
If you don’t pay your full statement balance each billing period, the unpaid balance and any new purchases that you make will accrue interest at an annual percentage rate of 35.99%. That is significantly higher than the average APR among credit card offers available right now, and even the average rate is very high.
To avoid interest charges with this card, you will have to pay the bill in full every month. If you carry a balance from month to month, you’ll need to pay in full for a couple of months in a row to stop the interest charges.
Undisclosed credit limit
The OneMain Financial BrightWay® Card hasn’t disclosed a specific minimum credit limit. You’ll find out what your credit limit is when you’re approved for an account. You might get a sense after simply being pre-approved, too.

One main BrightWay credit card is a scam. I was approved for $1500 in October 2025. I didn’t use my card much but I went out of state which is only 29 miles from my house to pay an electric bill at my other house. BrightWay put a fraud alert on the card and sent me an email saying I needed to verify my account with two government issued IDs so I emailed back my drivers license and Social Security card and they said they couldn’t verify it. Why not it’s a state of Georgia drivers license and it’s a government issued Social Security card that I received when I was born then they said they were closing my account. I never missed a payment. I was always on time I even paid a few days before my payment was due. They closed my account stay away from this credit card company because if you use your card anywhere they’re gonna put fraud alerts on it and have excuses to close it. I have documents to prove I did not use that card much and the day that I use the card to pay my other electric bill at my other house was when the Alert went out scam scam scam not worth the headache

Terrible customer service! I never received my card, and they are still trying to charge annual fees. Instead of making customers happy and waiving the fee, they are trying to take advantage of their customers and demanding their fees for a card I never received. Stayed on the phone for an hour; they could not care less about their customers. Complete garbage for customer service! 100%

Horrible customer service and fraud flagging system. Had a decent annual fee, rewards for timely payments, but the customer service is in the Philippines. The prompts when you call customer service trigger the system to ignore you, and the fraud flagging has you locked out of using your card with no easy way to unlock it as none of their unlock measures (text, email, calls) work. It's the worst card I have ever had, CS experience wise.

While I was reading "Sue Long's" review, I thought I was reading my own. She is 1000% correct. I am in my 70's and have been using credit cards for 50 years (starting back in the days of Diner's Club and Carte Blanche), and I have NEVER had such a terrible experience with a credit card. NEVER! I agree with everything Ms. Long wrote to the power of 10. Lots of credit cards use reps in the Philippines, but I have never spoken to any rep for any other card who was as difficult, - actually make that, well nigh impossible - to understand as the reps who work for OneMain Financial. And they have their system set up so you have to spend an hour on the phone before you can speak with anyone. I could go on, but my blood pressure won't allow it.

I am extremely disappointed with this company's customer service.
On four separate phone calls, I politely asked to be transferred to a manager or supervisor to resolve an ongoing issue. Each time, the representative said they were transferring me — and the call was disconnected. This happened four times in a row.
I remained professional and respectful throughout every call. Despite making multiple good-faith attempts to resolve the issue directly, I was never allowed to speak with a manager. Being repeatedly hung up on during escalation attempts is not normal customer service — it feels like deliberate obstruction.
To make matters worse, fees continued to be charged to my account while the issue remained unresolved.
At this point, I have been forced to escalate the matter through formal complaints because basic customer support channels failed entirely. I would strongly caution anyone considering this company: if you run into a problem that requires escalation, be prepared for significant resistance.

FAILS TO REPORT ZERO BALANCE TO CREDIT BUREAUS!!! I've disputed it OVER a MONTH ago, and they are STILL reporting my balance as at the limit! I now disputed it for the SECOND time - the next step is calling customer service and giving them a piece of my mindl! This is NOT the card you want to REPORT your hard work!! Others are better, Capital One, Upgrade, Credit One, etc. THIS IS ACTUALLY HURTING MY CREDIT SCORE that I worked so hard to build up! DO BETTER OneMain Financial Brightway!!!! This is NOT OK!!!

I've had this card for nearly seven months. I haven't had any major issues except for the fact that if you pay early, they count it as an additional payment instead of an early payment. You have to wait until your new statement date to make an "early payment"; otherwise, it's just counted as an additional payment, and you will still owe the minimum or get penalized. They say after six consecutive payments, you get the choice of either a lower APR or a credit increase. I have made seven payments, and it says to stay tuned for your rewards at the beginning of the next statement. So, I guess you don't actually get the reward at month six but rather month seven, going on payment eight. It doesn't make sense. On top of that, it says you MAY get a reward. I didn't see the "may" until after I opened the card. So, I'm waiting for my account to process payment seven to see if they keep their word. It's a hassle because it takes a long time for payments to post. You can only pay with a bank account with a routing and account number. It takes a few days to clear, which I also don't like. I'm trying to raise my credit score, but this card has some tricky and misleading aspects, as mentioned above. I am going to pay this card off and then not use it. It scares me that if I pay too early, I will end up missing my payment. I don't think that's fair. My other credit cards do not do this; they don't penalize me if I pay early as this card does. Moreover, I feel this company won't keep its word on the reward. I did call once because I paid early, and it still said my minimum payment was due. The representative picked up quickly and explained how I had to wait until a certain date. That's how I found out my "early payment" was just an additional payment. I feel like they want to set me up to fail. When I pay all of my other bills, I can't pay this one until a specific date, so I have to mark my calendar and set a reminder so I don't forget, and that's annoying.

This is the worst credit card you could ever get. Beware, they will take advantage of you. When you make payments, you get hit with multiple late fees on the same day in the same month. I would recommend that everyone never get this credit card.

Worst experience ever, the customer service is terrible. I closed my card after less than three months. My card got declined for " at risk transactions" from everything from cat food at Walmart, the Dollar General for drinks, and at the shell gas station for gas. Customer service had a strange stance, telling me to try it somewhere else and it should work over and over. I called at least five times and got nowhere. It was not worth the fee I can tell you that. If you don't feel like getting embarrassed in line for groceries, don't buy this card.
